Speaker: Filomena Nunes (NSCL & Michigan State University) Title: Direct Reactions: Current Status and Future Directions Abstract: Since the early days, direct reactions have been an important tool in nuclear physics and, in the field of rare isotopes, they are often one of the only tools. Whether one wishes to extract structure information or astrophysical reaction rates, it is important to have reliable reaction theories that can incorporate the relevant degrees of freedom in a consistent manner. In this talk, I will discuss the current status in nuclear reaction theory for a variety of reactions including elastic, transfer and breakup reactions, making the connection to astrophysics whenever pertinent. A discussion on future directions for the field will also be presented.
