Isgur Fellowship Candidate Seminar Speaker: Ted Rogers (de Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam) Title: Fully Unintegrated Parton Distributions and Extensions of Perturbative QCD Factorization Abstract: The standard factorization theorems of perturbative QCD are essential tools in high energy particle phenomenology. However, future experiments will investigate phenomena that lie well outside the range of applicability of the usual rigorous perturbative QCD factorization formalism. In particular, accurate treatments of final state kinematics require the use of unintegrated or even fully unintegrated parton distribution functions. In my talk, I will give examples of where a precise treatment of kinematics is critical. Next, I will discuss recent progress toward obtaining a very general formulation of factorization that maintains exact final state kinematics. This new formalism utilizes well-defined fully unintegrated parton distribution functions and related objects. I will close with an overview of general open problems in extending factorization and prospects for future developments.
