In this talk I will show some recent applications of chiral effective field theory to the study of some fundamental hadronic processes, and the contribution of these results to searches of physics beyond the standard model. Finally, I will comment briefly on the combination of lattice techniques and chiral effective field theory to address many-body nuclear problems from first principles.
