Collaboratories
A collaboratory spans multiple geographical areas with collaborators interacting via electronic means -- working together apart. Designed to enable close ties between scientists in a given research area, collaborations involve scientists in diverse areas to accelerate the development and dissemination of basic knowledge and to minimize the time-lag between discovery and application. The ultimate goal of the effort is complete location independence for researchers and research facilities.
DCE woks with OSF/DCE product which includes DSF. Historically the AFS task force which expanded to individual DFS filled systems (part of DCE).
In 1997 there were two groups, merged into the Distributive Computing Environment Working Group to coordinate the DCE/DFS environment for all ESnet communities.
