- Generally no proprietary data are exchanged
- Cost is paid by the organization sending the personnel
- Programs are short-term (usually one year)
Research and Development Consortia
A method of leveraging DOE research and providing new technology to a wide segment of industry
- Good industry representation
- Overall involvement by the industrial sector
- Commitment to diffuse the technology throughout the industry
Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR)/Small Business Technology Transfer Research (STTR)
The SBIR program is federally funded to promote small business participation in government programs
- Data have a 2-year confidentiality limit
- Small business acquires title to inventions
- Provides multiple funding phases from feasibility to private commercialization
