Geant4 at Jefferson Lab

Announcing: Geant4 Tutorial at Jefferson Lab on May 22-26, 2006.

Geant4 is an Object Oriented Toolkit for the simulation of the passage of particles through matter. Its application areas include high energy and nuclear physics experiments, astrophysics, medical physics, radiation background studies, radioprotection and space science.

Geant4 at Jefferson lab (GLab) includes versions 4.5.2, 4.6.0, 4.6.2, 4.7.0 and 4.7.1. The Geant4 Application for Tomographic Emission (GATE) toolkit is also part of the installation package and includes 1.0.2, 1.1.0 and 1.2.0 (automatically loaded).

The Low Energy Extension of the current Geant4 Monte Carlo simulation, allows to study electromagnetic physics processes for photons, electrons, hadrons and ions down to 250 eV. The low energy processes include the photo-electric effect, Compton scattering, Rayleigh scattering, gamma conversion, bremsstrahlung and ionization. This makes possibilities of studying medical related project in addition to standard nuclear/high energy physics.

Current default version

The default geant4 version at JLab is 4.7.1. See documentation on how to use it.

Note: 4.7.0 and 4.7.1 are currently unavailable.
