Particle Physics Data Grid (PPDG)
at Jefferson Lab

Jefferson Lab is a participant in the Particle Physics Data Grid, a project to develop location independent access to replicated data sets. This work will support both access to Jefferson Lab experimental physics data (over 100 terabytes / year), and access to lattice QCD data (a few terabytes / year). The file transfer capabilities will also be used to support a distributed batch computing environment (see the HPC Home Page).

Web Services

As part of this activity, Jlab is prototyping the use of XML as a structured data representation and SOAP as the transport protocol for data grid communications.  Initially, three data grid web services are targetted: The first release of these services are described using Web Services Description Language (WSDL),
now available for comment.

A demonstration Replica Catalog and SRM service are available:

  • SRM service test forms (sends form to servlet which invokes SOAP service and returns XML; accessible to authorized users -- holders of certificates issued by our group -- we will be transitioning to the DOE Science Grid certificates soon).
  • HTML browsing of the Replica Catalog ("list" command parameters embedded in links)
  • Grid File Manager application (swing+SOAP application, launches with Java Web Start)
  • Other Documents:
