Sports Definitions & Rules

1.0 Purpose

Employee communication and cooperation are the two most important benefits a company derives from employee programs and activities. Employees are encouraged to come together informally in a variety of different activity group settings and come to know and trust each other. The informal group activity experience carries over to the formal work environment, enhancing employee morale and communication.

2.0 Eligibility

Jefferson Lab employees, retirees, users, and their immediate families are encouraged to pursue their exercise, cultural, educational and social activity interest through Jefferson Lab Activities Group sponsorship.

3.0 Athletic Clubs

On site employee Athletic Club functions which; (1) are planned and implemented on non-work time; (2) are NOT political (advocate political figures, political issues, or conditions of employment) in nature; and (3) do not duplicate existing JAG activities and services.

Athletic Clubs form the core of regular and/or seasonal athletic activity from within the lab's infrastructure that specifically do not include team competition against other non-lab groups or within team leagues. Athletic Clubs have access to the JAG capital sports equipment and can make requests for capital sports equipment improvement or purchase which will be considered.

4.0 Athletic Teams

Off site employee Athletic Team functions which are sponsored by the JAG are limited to activities which: (1) are planned and implemented on non-work time; (2) are NOT political (advocate political figures, political issues, or conditions of employment) in nature; and (3) do not duplicate existing JAG activities and services.

Athletic Teams form the core of seasonal athletic activity from within the lab's infrastructure that specifically include team competition with other non-lab groups and, particularly, within team leagues. Athletic Teams have access to JAG capital sports equipment and can make requests for capital sports equipment improvement or purchase.

5.0 Liaison Person

Both Athletic Clubs and Athletic Teams shall be represented by a Club/Team contact and/or co-contact who acts as liaison between the Club/Team and JAG. This liaison is responsible for meeting the requirements set forth in Sections 8.0 and 9.0 of this document.

6.0 Capital Equipment

A collection of sporting goods property is stored in the commonly accessible "Mouse-House" closet located in CEBAF center. A complete inventory of the sports equipment, organized according to sport, indicates when the item was made part of the inventory, the cost to acquire the item, and how the item was acquired (purchase or donation). A policy to borrow and improve the capital equipment inventory exists.

To borrow equipment, a sign-out sheet is available at the equipment storage area for both (a) short-term use defined to be less than 24 hours requiring no specific JAG permission and (b) long-term use to be more than 24 hours with permission and duration to be approved by the JAG representative. Also available at the equipment storage area is request form to purchase and/or improve specific capital equipment. The request form can be sent to Bridget Paul.

7.0 JAG Athletic T-Shirts

An official JAG Athletic T-shirt exists, and is available to JAG approved Athletic Club and Athletic Team members.

8.0 Rules for Forming an Athletic TEAM

The person or persons wishing to form a JAG sponsored Athletic Team must follow the guidelines set forth in this section.

9.0 Rules for Forming an Athletic CLUB

The person or persons wishing to form a JAG sponsored Athletic Club must follow the guidelines set forth in this section.
