New Jefferson Lab Recycling and Reuse Action Items
Jefferson Lab's Waste Minimization & Pollution Prevention Task Group met on November 21 and identified some pertinent Enviro-friendly actions for staff and users to put into practice. These actions range from reusing and sharing interoffice mailing envelopes to pallet collection. The following are some of the topics that were addressed at the meeting.
- Interoffice envelopes are NOT trash. It seems that they are being recycled, thrown away, or stored in some massive cabinet for use sometime in the future. Please reuse them, or if you have more than you need, bundle them up and send them to Shipping & Receiving (S&R) (MS 90D) for redistribution and subsequent reuse.
- Used Pallets, when no longer needed, will be removed and recycled by a new vendor. (More to come in January 2003).
- Cardboard boxes
- Reusable boxes: There are locations in Support Service Center & CEBAF Center to put reusable cardboard boxes. Reusable boxes should be flattened and placed behind the paper recycling receptacles in the Support Service Center Copy Machine Area and in the CEBAF Center 2nd floor copy/work room. If you need one or more boxes, check out these locations.
- Non-Reusable boxes: These should be flattened, labeled 'RECYCLE', and placed outside your office/work area door. If you have multiple non-reusable boxes, you can also flatten and place them directly into the green cardboard/paper bins located near large buildings.
Note: if you have multiple REUSABLE boxes, flatten them, write a work request, and have them delivered to S&R at 90D, where they will be available for reuse.
- Circuit board and electronics recycling is handled through Joan Campbell's group (x7348). You can either deliver these items directly to S&R or complete a work order specifying "Scrap Excess" and have it delivered to S&R. These items will be recycled along with other scrap metals.
