Help Clean Hampton Roads Waterways
15th Annual Clean the Bay Day
Saturday, June 14
9 am to 12 noon
The Chesapeake Bay Foundation is searching for volunteers to help Clean the Bay.
Shoreline litter is not just a public eyesore, it can be harmful to wildlife, a source of toxic water pollution and be symptomatic of other, less visible forms of pollution entering our waterways.
This is a great opportunity for groups, families, and individuals to help clean up waterways across Hampton Roads. "Boaters, divers and landlubbers are welcome."
Clean the Bay Day 2002 saw 5,575 volunteers collect 186,408 pounds of litter from 308 miles of Virginia watershed shoreline and tributaries of the Chesapeake Bay. "Cigarette butts remain the number one item collected in terms of numbers of items per category of debris."
