Simple ways to Reduce Waste at JLab
The following is a list of simple things you can do to help cut down on waste at Jefferson Lab (and at home).
- When purchasing supplies, order in bulk (if don’t need so much, team up with someone else that also needs the supplies).
- Reuse clean manufacturing scrap.
- Donate or sell old equipment – use the DOE Materials exchange program!
- Purchase remanufactured equipment.
- Buy rechargeable cartridges for printers.
- Edit documents on the computer rather than printing multiple drafts.
- Reuse boxes, file folders, and interoffice envelopes.
- Maintain central files rather than multiples of files.
- Make announcements in meetings or electronically.
- Remove your name from mailing lists.
- Use proper maintenance practice to extend equipment life.
- Make use of reusable rags or other materials for small spills or cleaning jobs.
- Reuse packing materials (look for packing peanuts in Jefferson Lab’s recycling centers).
- Use reusable pallets that are sturdy and repair broken pallets.
- Use coffee mugs or water glasses rather than disposable cups/mugs.
