PhysicsExperiment E05-109, HAPPEx-III, a measurement of the nucleon strange form factors at high Q2, continues taking production data in a reasonably smooth fashion in Hall A.APS April Meeting Abstract Submission Deadline is Oct. 23 The 2010 APS April Meeting will take place at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel in Washington, DC. Because the April Meeting will be held in conjunction with the annual winter meeting of the American Association of Physics Teachers (AAPT), it has been moved to February. The deadline for receipt of abstracts is Friday, Oct. 23, at 5 p.m. EDT (2 p.m. PDT). AcceleratorThe accelerator delivered beam to the halls with some down times and issues. Magnets DOG2E and DOG3E tripped a few times and were fixed. RF (radiofrequency) separators tripped off several times and were scheduled to be acid flushed. During the Saturday swing shift, beam would not transport out of the injector, most likely due to a vacuum valve. After cycling some injector vacuum valves many times, Operations staffers were able to deliver beam again. Hall A Compton counts were unstable at times, and more troubleshooting is needed for this problem.Free-Electron Laser
The FEL team was able to complete installation of the ultraviolet line
and get most of it aligned last week. The UV line is fully under vacuum
and the dipole strings have been powered up. The source of a water
leak in one optical chicane magnet is an unauthorized joint in an
interior winding; the team is swapping the coil with one used for the
Light Pseudoscalar and Scalar Search
(slow leak, so it can be used intermittently) while a re-manufacture of
the coil is being arranged. Some tests on the Gun Test Stand regarding
vacuum conditioning were also successfully performed. Lastly, the team
completed the JLAMP Proposal for DOE Basic Energy Sciences.

Environment, Safety, Health & QualitySeptember is National Preparedness Month. The steps to preparing for an emergency are: (1) get a kit, (2) make a plan and (3) be informed. When preparing for a possible emergency situation, it's best to think first about the basics of survival: fresh water, food, clean air and warmth. Here is a list of recommended items to include in a basic emergency supply kit:
