    Implementation soon
Lab installs Central Alarm Notification System across site

This spring, the Lab will complete the installation and implementation of the site-wide Central Alarm Notification System (CANS).

This has been a major undertaking that both integrates the fire alarm system across campus and provides a new badging approach for access to buildings. The system is being put in place to improve overall security and safety at the Lab to the benefit of all staff and users in our community, according to Dave Kausch, the Lab's subcontracting officer's technical representative for the project.

Once the system is fully implemented a person desiring after hours access to most buildings on site will require the use of a badge. As is currently the case, badges will be needed at all times to access the accelerator site.

Another aspect of this new badging system is the link it has to training information in the new Ingenium system. CANS will take over the training verification duties currently performed by Lab security guards. "All Lab staff and users must make sure they have current training to meet the access requirements for the area(s) in which they work," Kausch explains.

Watch for a memorandum from Roy Whitney, Associate Director for Administration, to come out within the month. It will explain the steps Lab staff and users will each need to take to ensure their training and personal information is up-to-date in the Central Information System (CIS) and to receive their new badges.
