Old Dominion University to Celebrate Annual Womengineers Day
Old Dominion University is planning its second annual Womengineers Day for Saturday, March 9. Sponsored by the College of
Engineering and Technology in partnership with the Hampton Roads Technology Council and the Center for Innovative Technology (CIT),
the event is designed for students, professional engineers and teachers of future engineers. The free, daylong event will feature
information, support systems, networking opportunities, scholarship and financial aid information, and other issues facing women in
engineering. Pamela McCawley-Bell, associate professor of industrial engineering and management systems at the University of
Central Florida and a motivational speaker, will be the morning plenary speaker. A former Martin Luther King, Jr. Visiting
Associate Professor of Aeronautics and Astronautics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), McCauley-Bell is president
and co-owner of Tech-Solutions.net, Inc., a small business that provides innovative technical solutions in the areas of artificial
intelligence, human factors and simulation. She received her bachelor's, master's and Ph.D. in industrial engineering from the
University of Oklahoma, making her the first known African-American female to be granted a doctorate in engineering in that state.
Womengineers Day is free and open to the public. Elementary and high school teachers will receive recertification points for
attending. For more information, visit web.odu.edu/engr/womengineers or call
