Student Tour Announcement - a message from Aidan Kelleher
The Users Group and the Office of Public Affairs at Jefferson Lab are pleased to announce a new Student Tour Guide Program. We are looking for student volunteers. If you are an interested student, contact Aidan Kelleher (kelleher@jlab.org). If you work with students that would be good candidates for this program, please encourage them to consider it.
There are several goals to this program. First, to support public affairs by creating a pool of trained tour guides. Second, to train students to be able to speak to the general public about the work performed at Jefferson Lab. This is a useful skill for students, not just for their upcoming job searches but also for the rest of their careers (funding applications, tenure process, etc.).
Through a grant from the JSA Initiatives Fund, students will be compensated for their time.
All interested students or advisors should contact Aidan Kelleher directly (kelleher@jlab.org). Please provide a short resume.
Students interested in being a tour escort/guide:
- Must be current, and stay current, on Oxygen Deficiency and Radiation Worker 1 training. Hall access training is a plus.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Must be willing to be trained on tour protocols involving access to various facilities, Lab safety, current Lab messages, etc.
- Must be willing/able to commit to supporting a minimum of 4 Public Affairs tours over the next 12 months.
- Must dress appropriately/safely for all assigned tours (low profile tours require at a minimum slacks and flat, closed-toe-shoes; VIP tours often require wearing appropriate business clothing - suit or business casual).
- Must complete an IRS form W-9 that will filed with SURA – as the paying authority. You will be paid $30 for your assistance as a tour escort and $50 when asked to speak/give a tour.
