Postdoctoral Position at the University of Virginia - a message from Blaine Norum
Postdoctoral Position in Experimental Intermediate Energy Nuclear Physics
Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research position in the field of experimental intermediate nuclear physics at the University of Virginia to begin in Fall 2009. Our group is playing a leading role in studies of few-body photodisintegration and Compton scattering at the High Intensity Gamma Source (HIGS) located on the campus of Duke University as well as in studies of threshold pion production and few-body electro-disintegration at JLAB. Our group currently consists of two faculty members, two research scientists, one research associate, and 3 graduate students. The successful candidate will be located at the HIGS facility and be expected to take a leading role in the installation, commissioning, and use of the hydrogen/deuterium polarized target currently under construction at UVA. He/she will also have the opportunity to participate in our JLAB experiments and will be encouraged to develop his/her own new ideas for experiments. The successful candidate will be expected to supervise both graduate and undergraduate students. The appointment will be initially for one year and is renewable based upon mutual agreement and continued funding. Applicants should have a PhD in experimental nuclear or particle physics. Experience with polarized targets or cryogenics would be an asset. Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled. Applicants should submit a curriculum vitae, a statement of research experience and interests, a list of publications, and arrange for three letters of reference to be sent to:
