Weekly Meeting Minutes - March 21, 2003

Attending: David Lawrence, Itaru, Eric, Anatoly, Raphael, George, Liping, Mariana, Dan Dale, Rafael, Ashot, Yar, Mahbub, Dustin McNutty, Aram, Nicolai, Eugene, Stefan, Sasha, Volker On Phone: Dan Sober, Rory

Tentative Hall B run plan discussed. We’re scheduled for 10 days in early 2004 (commission) and another 22 days after g8. Talk of requesting 1 day to commission the tagger as Hall B equipment, not PrimEx stuff. We should be g8 and CLAS involved, by supporting the request and perhaps donating manpower.

Eugene says the tagger electronics will be in by May. Discussion of putting in the electronics during the fall down time and request 1 day of beam time immediately after the down time. Eugene says this will not be a problem with g0, and will talk with Volker for 1 shift for tagger electronics. Ashot wants arguments and counter-arguments from all involved before proceeding.

Note: Volker will be attending the April 18 collaboration meeting.

Status of tagger work:
Eugene: plateauing with the radioactive sources works - there’s a clear difference in source / no source results. We have 25 replacement PMTs and the rest are en route, ETA unknown. Approximately 3 days of work for 6 people.

Mark: The rest of the sources are here and we can proceed after RadCon clears them.

Pair Spectrometer Cables:
We need new ones, and Dave will speak to Tom or Doug about pulling the old cables from the Hall.

Request:
Stefan wants to know if there’s PrimEx interest in participating in the rate test near beam experiment. The 6x6 HyCal-00 prototype would be used. Dave Lawrence will be involved DAQ-wise in any case. There is agreement by consensus and a meeting Monday for details.

HyCal Status:
The G10 tubes are too small. George, Raphael, Ashot & Dave L. will meet afterwards to discuss.
Soldering proceeds at 20 per day - this puts us to the end of June for putting the crystals in the frame.
Discussion of new wrapping. Upshot is to use the Millipore, and Mark will look at the DVCS data.

Dave: Test Lab network / DAQ system in progress, EEL Buildings system has been in place for over a week.
The simulation code is updated and 90% done.
Software Workshop ideas (19 April):

  • 1) online DAQ
  • 2) offline reconstruction
  • 3) Monte Carlo
  • 4) status and ongoing projects
  • 5) 2 hours on flux monitoring

Ashot wants to see weekly updates on software / data analysis status.

Dan Dale: Talked on Aram’s progress - see the results are on Aram’s web page, through Subsystems - Pair Spectrometer.

Nicolai: The brass fittings have a groove on the side that shouldn’t be there. Dave will contact Rory to contact the engineers.

Yar: LMS hardware mounted. Stability tests continue to try and identify one PMT that seems to “walk” over time, on the order of 1%. Dave will be contacted about the interface between the LMS and trigger electronics. We will be ready by June, 2003.

Marianna: Worked on crystal transmission measurements, and fixed the spectrometer.

Liping: Discussion of presenting the Eta-Eta Prime results at a conference in China. Visa problems brought up and general advice is don’t leave the country before paperwork comes through.

Dan Dale: Helium bag prototype tested (picture). We need to get specs to Dave Kashy as to where the TAC goes (inside or in front of the bag), and the helium concentration.

    Veto Counters:
Dave: We have all parts on-site except for the wrapping material. The parts fit together well and are stored in the EEL Building. Ashot advises to use the black rolls we already have.

    Note:
Liping: Brookhaven may be disposing of 2 lead glass crystals. Consensus: get them.
