Weekly Meeting Minutes - March 28, 2003

Attending: Ashot, George, Anatoly, Nicolai, Rafael, Raphael, Mark, Yar, Aaron, Itaru, Dustin, Vladimir, Misha (from Fermilab)
On Phone: Dan Sober, David Lawrence

Update: Done testing the Tagger PMTs and Eugene will analyze the data over the weekend. Initial estimates show under a dozen PMTs need replacement and we’ve lots of spares. We’ll talk about it more after Eugene reports on Monday.

Note: MRI grant ending July 31, but the NSF Nuclear Physics division is supportive of continuing funding and will write a recommendation letter saying so. Cross your fingers.

From Dave Kashy: We have an estimate for the new floor area ($30k) and Volker has no problems with the funding.
The space is for delay cable storage, and we may move electronics there if it’d be useful.
Top & back plates for HyCal designed and one of each ordered for tests.
HyCal frame stress test schedule for April and will be back by the end of June.
Note: This is also the deadline for finishing the crystal assemblies and be ready for installation.

Note: We need a bench test of how long the cables can be and still use the existing delay cables.

Dan: Cable work continues next week; the parts are ready and only need to be given to Tom. Ashot will talk to George about connectors. Talking to Tom about low-QQ experiment, and they need delay cables. Is it feasible they pull and use ours for a month? Answer: talk to Stefan.

Dave: Discussion of fast cables. This is a high priority. Design finalized with cables starting at PC boards and ending at the electronics. Light and heat-tight issues raised and referred to Dave Kashy. Total cost around $10k and Dave is in the process of doing the paperwork. Unless there are problems, it’ll go forward. Discussion of moving the August run delay cables to the Test Lab - Dave will talk to the building manager about the fire hazard aspect.

Anatoly: 250 lead tungstate assemblies done and ready for wrapping as soon as we know what the wrapping is. Material from 3M has been ordered and needs to be tested - George is ready to do that.

Discussion of gain vs rate, with Itaru showing a few overheads.

Discussion of fastbus crate availability from Fermilab. Answer: none. Talk to Bogdon.

Discussion of Hall B tracing noise to one of our crates. Dave says it can’t be and will look into it.

Discussion as to the accuracy of the experiment.

Nicolai needs manpower help, and will run out of parts at the end of next week; remind Rory to ship what he has. 106 assemblies are currently done.

Discussion of LMS reliability and design. A significant redesign proposed and will be studied. Detailed analysis of components also indicated.

Ashot talked to Volker about 1 day after the fall down time to calibrate tagger. Response was noncommittal but positive.

Software:
Minor discussion of workshop agenda, mainly because it’s already changed since Dave sent out the preliminary agenda.
