Weekly Meeting Minutes - April 4, 2003

Attending: George, Dustin, Dave L., Dave K., Yar, Raphael, Ashot, Liping, Anatoly, Doug, Vladimir, Mabub, Dan Sober (phone), Mark Ito (phone), Dan Dale (phone), Sam (phone)

Low Q-squared update: the 36-element HyCal is in the hall and the DAQ system is in progress. The hall closes at 5pm today, but Stephan has control of the beam and the next week should see it finished. The Pair Spectrometer cables were pulled and used as delay cables.

Dave Kashy: There’s a problem with a couple of screws on the prototype box; they were removed to make room for the beam pipe. Doug says he can replace ‘em with inserts.

Dave L.: The +-15 Volt power supplies on the fastbus crates are bad. We either replace them or get new creates. Ashot says no more are available from Fermilab. There are two on the Rad 5 setup, and Dave will ask Elton about them.

Liping: We have all dynode power supplies, but need a box or something to put 'em in. Ashot wants this done in the summer.

Tagger Status:
382 out of 384 counters are up & running, neither of the two bad ones are in the PrimEx area. Next step is to add the new electronics in the summer, then a 1-2 day test.

Discussion of getting other groups involved , G8 in particular. Also the schedule for the tagger commissioning and flux control – they can be back-to-back but we need flexibility to move the flux control back a week if we need time to analyze the data. Tentative schedule is September-October. Volker is agreeable to the idea but wants solid reasons & proposals first.

Dave Kashy: The welding on the vertical lifting columns in the hall is done.
PC board work done & the drawing are to Mark McMullen.
Deck designs are in progress and Plant Services plans for starting September and finishing in 3 weeks.
Horizontal movement is in the design stage; Pete plans on finishing before his 2 week vacation.
Test load of HyCal frame tentatively scheduled for next week.
Tom & crew will return to cable construction. Dave needs to give the PC board connectors to him.
We should start thinking about a stacking plan.
More screws have been ordered and should arrive next week. Another torque tool will be ordered.

Discussion of cleaning. Doug will bring an ultrasonic cleaner to the EEL building on Monday, and various cleaning fluids ordered & tested.

Discussion of who should order stuff and who to go to. Upshot: go to Raphael.

Anatoly: The G10 tubes are too small. Dan Dale will contact the manufacturer.
The brass parts are too big on one side – 30% are bad and have been given to Casy at the machine shop. If he can't fix 'em, Dan Dale will have more made.
160 Lead glass assemblies are ready for wrapping, as soon as the 3M material arrives and is tested.

Dave Lawrence: Presented a new layout of the PC board – PMT cables. Longest distance is 30-35 cm, probably needs to be increased to 45-50 cm. The dynode signal delay cable issue (where do they go?) remains unresolved.

Discussion of putting together a mockup of the crystals and using that to measure the cable length; unresolved.

Yar: LMS box redesigned to use optic fibers from the main bundle for the reference PMTs. Discussion of further tests needed to be certain of stability. Presentation scheduled for next week's meeting after going over it with Ashot.
Web page has been redesigned and a few pages presented. Discussion of layout and graphics.

Software:
Dave: Work progresses. Problems encountered when Linux programs are run on Sun machines. Test Lab DAQ system encouraged.

Aram's been looking at the 80 picoamp data.

Discussion of workshop agenda; please send ideas to Ashot.

Dustin: Data analysis has progressed to the 'debug program' stage.

Liping: Cabling is going ok. Delaying discriminator checks till the summer.

Discussion of target ladder status; get it from Kashy and shelve it.
