Software Meeting Minutes - April 8, 2003

Attending: E. Clinton, R. Demirchyan, J. Underwood, A. Teymurazyan (phone) D. Lawrence

Dave briefly described a new program recently added to CVS called file2et. This program is able to read a CODA file and insert the events into an existing ET system. The intention is to use this for testing our online monitoring software. The progam was placed in src/programs/DAQ/file2et with a README file explaining how to use it.

Raphael provided some suggestions for the logbook. He noted that for someone like him who was not here for the beam test last summer, the logbooks and comments that were recorded are a sometimes sparse and not always easy to decipher. The issue seems to be partially due to personal styles in logbook entries and partially due to the structure/ implimentation of the logbook. Abdellah has been assigned to identify and implement a new electronic logbook. Another suggestion born from the discussion was that we should (eventually) create a web page that gathers info from the electronic log, relevant scanned pages from the paper log, and comments entered into the DAQ system.

The agenda for the upcoming workshop was reviewed briefly. An error was found in the schedule which made one talk an hour longer than intended. The revised agenda is attached to the bottom of the minutes.

The general function of the calibration/monitoring progams was reviewed. Each detector system is to have its own tri-purpose calibration program which will:

1. Produce histograms used to determine calibration constants.
2. Produce histograms used to check the calibration quality.
3. Produce histograms used for online monitoring of the detector system.

These programs should generally be pretty small with the heavy lifting done by the associated libraries. There was a consensus that a need will, most likely, exist for PAW accessible histograms online. It was agreed that development of individual progams should be along a path (PAW or ROOT) that is specified by the primary developer of that program.
