How to Remote Operate the Chiller 1) Log onto the PC Open any Java-capable browser and direct to "129.57.57.188:5800" and enter the password. Contact Dave Kashy (x7275), Ashot Gasparian (x7914), or Jarreas Underwood (x6331) if you need access. After a short delay you should see the screen of the PC in the browser. On the top left are four buttons - "Disconnect" is the one you use to log off and end the session. 2) Start the WinChill Software Go to Start -> Shortcut to Common, and find the "WINCHILL 32 V1" shortcut. Doubleclick on it. Do not open the software from Start -> Programs -> HyCal Stuff -> WinChill Applications as that shortcut does not have the correct formatting. A "System Unlocked" text box should appear - hit "OK." 2.5) The WinChill window should open up, but there won't be a Level Alarm button. Go to File -> Open and choose "Controller With Level Alarm." A red Level button should appear. 3) Connect to the Chiller Go to Options -> Remote Station Setup. "HyCal Chiller" should be the only option, and highlighted. Hit Edit and verify that: Title: HyCal Chiller WinChill Address: 1 Device Type: Fuji (you'll have to select this from the drop-down menu) Device ID:1 Hit Ok twice. Go to Options -> Comm Port Setup. Verify that: Port: COM1 Baud: 9600 Parity: Odd Both Intervals: 4 seconds. You shouldn't have to change anything, but you have to set up the port anyway. After a short delay (up to 15 seconds or so) the PV and SV should change from zero to the current temperature and setpoint. The "out1" light should be green. If the PV and SV number do not change, shut down the program and try starting it again. Failing that, reboot the machine and run WinChill before opening LabVIEW. 4) What the Lights Mean PV = The temperature of the liquid leaving the chiller. SV = Setpoint Value = The temperature you want. out1 = unknown out2 = unknown Alm1 = Alarm 1 = The temperature of the liquid leaving the chiller is 30 degrees or warmer. Alm2 = Alarm 2 = The temperature of the liquid leaving the chiller is 5 degrees or colder. 5) How to Change the Temperature Go to Options -> Setpoint -> Adjust. The current Setpoint and Manual MV should fill in. If they don't, shut down the software and restart - something didn't connect properly. Assuming they do, fill in the Setpoint you want and click on OK (do not hit return). After a short (up to 15 second) delay the SV should change, with the PV following as the chiller goes to work. Warning: Before changing the Setpoint, verify that the current temperature gradient is less than 0.5 degrees per hour for the lead glass, and less than 0.25 for lead tungstate crystals. Do not change the SV by more than two degrees in any case. 6) How to Turn the Chiller On/Off Go to Options -> Unit Options -> Start/Stop Unit. Hit "Stop" in the window that appears. You do not need to enter a channel number as there is only one chiller attached to the PC. Please note that if you stop the chiller in this way, you may not be able to turn it back on manually – you should turn the chiller off and back on using WinChill. 7) If you want a Temperature vs Time Graph Go to Options -> Poll. A blue light next to the word "Poll" should appear, and the graph will start. There is no way of adjusting the scales on this graph.
