Introduction by the Meeting Coordinator Susan Barr, APS
Our Friday, April 18, workshop is beginning to take shape. (See the agenda below.) We'll have approximately 20
participants from 9 different User facilities, and we have a number of
topics that have been suggested as discussion items.
To provide a background for discussions, a representative from each facility is asked to give a 10-15 minute overview of User administrative and support activities at her facility. Since we come from different types of laboratories, I suggest that these talks identify the mission of the facility, then describe the user-related activities that take place, the person or office responsible for the activity, and the level of support provided (i.e. how many people do what). It would also help to include an organization chart so we can all put things into some sort of framework. We have a viewgraph machine, slide projector, and VCR in our conference room, so you can support your talk with whatever visuals you choose. (And if you bring one hard copy of your presentation, we'll have copies made here for all participants.) We also have a computer with a large monitor and Web access in the conference room.
The presenters listed in the agenda are tentative. If anyone would prefer to have someone else from their institution present, that is fine.
Participants are also encouraged to bring copies of anything they wish to share with the group: newsletters, policy manuals, forms, publications, etc. (If you don't want to bring multiple copies with you, you can send them in advance to:
