A Particle Physics Bedtime Story
A brief explanation of particle physics, suitable for children of all ages, including psychology majors.
Hampton University Particle Physics
This is the homepage of our Hampton University Particle Physics Group and has information and links on our activities and who we are. If you want to learn what HU is doing in the ATLAS detector collaboration, this is the place.
HEP Softball
If you like physics and you like the national pastime, well...
Science Education at Jefferson Lab
This is the page of the Education Group at Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility. They are a very active (and nice) bunch and their page is chock full of great science education resources, including many programs which they run at the Lab. Jefferson Lab is located a few miles northwest of Hampton University in Newport News, Virginia and is the site of the Continuous Electron Beam Accelerator Facility (CEBAF). It is also the source of a great deal of support and help for the HU Particle Physics Group.
U.S. ATLAS Education Pages
This page, maintained by Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory, contains both a good description of ATLAS and many links to learn more about it, the Large Hadron Collider, CERN, and Particle Physics.
CERN ATLAS Public Web Pages
This is another good site for learning about ATLAS. It has nice links to posters you can download representing various components of the ATLAS detector.
Fermilab Education Office
The Education Office at Fermilab (Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory) maintains a wealth of resources and information on Particle Physics, science, and the activities there. Fermilab, located about an hour outside Chicago in Batavia, Illinois, houses the Tevatron, presently the world's most powerful accelerator. It was at Fermilab that the top quark was discovered in 1995.
The Particle Adventure
If you want to learn about Particle Physics and will go to only one link, go to this one. There is no better online tutorial on Particle Physics. The Particle Adventure is maintained by Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory and by CPEP, the Contemporary Physics Education Project.
Boston University ATLAS Education Page
This is a high quality education page on particle physics in general and on the CERN ATLAS detector in particular, complete with a glossary of terms. Boston University is partnered with Northeastern University as a QuarkNet center (see below).
QUARKNET
This is it! QuarkNet is the program which gives impetus to Education and Outreach in the Hampton University Particle Physics Group and is in the business of beginning a revolution in physics education.
