Case for QN

The Case for QuarkNet
QuarkNet, through NSF and DOE support, brings teachers into physics research.
QuarkNet is carefully designed to maximize the success of the teachers in both gaining benefit from the research experience and translating that benefit to the classroom. In addition,
QuarkNet does not stop with the teachers initially recruited but spreads to other teachers and to students.
QuarkNet prepares both mentors and teachers in order to make the research experience meaningful and productive. Teachers work
in high energy physics research in communication and cooperation with not only their mentors but also the QuarkNet staff. Inquiry learning and classroom transfer are stressed throughout.
At the end of the summer, QuarkNet teachers continue to work with their mentors and the QuarkNet staff to design a three-week workshop (Associate Teacher Institute) for each QuarkNet Center. Ten more teachers attend each Associate Teacher Institute in the following summer. Furthermore, students participate not only through the enhancement of their teachers' knowledge and skills but also through data from high energy experiments available to them on the internet.
