In July 2005, Peter Muhoro, a Hampton University alumnus (BS Physics, 2005) and UNIPHY student, went to the University of Zambia and worked with members of the Physics Department to construct a MARIACHI passive radar array for detection of cosmic ray air-showers. This is the first SHARE apparatus installed in the Southern Hemisphere. The images below are of the constrcution, the final product, and some of the people involved.

Construction

Yambazi Banda, a Physics student at the University of Zambia,
works on receiving elements for the MARIACHI antenna on the
roof of the Physics Department.

Mr. Banda and Physics faculty member Dr. Hussain work on the
base of the antenna system.

Building up the supports from the base. Note that the framework
is made of light, sturdy PVC.

Yambazi saws the wooden holders for the receiving elements.

Precision cutting in the University wood shop.

Joining wood and PVC.
