GlueX (VRVS) Video Conference Minutes ---------------------------------------------------------------- June 22, 2004 Present: Richard Jones, Ryan Mitchell, Zisis Papandreou 1. The design of theČ erenkov and entering it in our code was discussed. Ryan had received minimal information from RPI with no dimensions. Gary Adams reported that they had done no simulations but had only CAD drawing. Zisis pointed Ryan to Ravi's graphics repository and suggested that he contact Ravi for dimensions. We should redo the "study of the gap" around theČ erenkov. Ryan has begun with "toy" simulations aiming at particle ID tests between K's and pi's etc. It was argued that these should advance to the HDGeant stage and for this we need a realisticČ erenkov geometry. In a nutshell, things are at an early stage. 2. BCAL: Simulations will commence in Regina within July. Ed and Zisis will review the list of pressing simulations and which should be done with HDFast and which with HDGeant. 3. A discussion on BMS took place but without Dave we decided to keep it short. In a future meeting, Dave should present the CLAS experience and we should pursue the make/imake discussion again. On porting HDFast to Mac OS X, Richard cautioned that the Absoft Compiler use would be extensive (mcfast, qq, ...) and thus potentially a time consuming job. 4. A few issues in connection to the portal were discussed: 1. Fixed vs. free horizontal html structure as far as browser window width goes. [Zisis has made some improvements since, but a lower threshold of about 850 pixels remains, below which the html does not scale with the browser window -- a future fix perhaps. The discussion continued in forum "portal bug fixes/improvement to portal interface"] 2. Richard and Zisis agreed that we should not add inline images to the forum; a link to a web server is the way to keep it, to avoid bloating the forum pages. 3. Zisis talked briefly of the new document database that will replace the existing "Downloads" section for Hall D Notes and Talks. This product will be released by mid July. 4. Finally, "trawling" and Blogger philosophies were discussed for the portal. Zisis is reviewing a number of technologies suggested by Geoffrey Fox for use in our portal. Some collaborators have also been looking at client journaling programs that can use one of these technologies to add journal entries to the portal. This is a niche application that Zisis will implement if proven not to be too big of a project.
