Summary of software discussions at the Oct. 2006 GlueX collaboration meeting David Lawrence Oct. 16, 2006 There were two software discussions held at the collaboration meeting. The first was a scheduled one on the first morning of the meeting and the second was held just before close out on the last day of the meeting and was not on the official agenda. Oct. 12 Software discussion: ---------------------------- This discussion started out with David reporting on the status of the GlueX reconstruction software. Progress on milestones set at the last collaboration meeting was reviewed briefly. Specific areas of progress in the reconstruction software were presented. And finally, a plan for the software work that needs to be done prior to CD-2 was outlined. The upcoming software workshop(Nov. 2006) was included as a pivotal point in the software milestones that need to be met prior to CD-2. There was fairly little discussion by the collaboration as a whole prior during this section of the meeting. The two main things expressed were 1.) A general consensus on the overall plan which is driven by studies that we wish to complete by CD-2. There was no discussion of specific studies that should be performed outside of what was presented. There was a suggestion that the studies should focus on 1 or 2 "gold-plated" reactions which was generally agreed upon. 2.) David should start working on a document that outlined some specifics of the plan presented on his slides and a second discussion should be held at the end of the meeting on Saturday. Oct. 14 Software discussion: ----------------------------- This discussion started with a rough draft of the document David agreed to put together after the discussion 2 days earlier. Alex suggested that we invite reviewers to sit in on the workshop to provide feedback during the discussions. Two names suggested were Bill Dunwoodie and Bernhard Mecking. These would not be reviewers in the sense that they would be provided material ahead of time and asked to write a report later. Their role would be to contribute to the dicsussions that take place during the workshop. There was a little discussion on specific things that should be studied prior to CD-2. There were 3 specific suggestions: - Missing mass resolutions - Single particle resolutions - Use of 2-3 "golden" reactions In preparation for the workshop it was agreed that each subsystem prepare a 1-page document describing what SHOULD be in Geant regarding that detector. This needs to be done prior to the workshop so that the information can be used in the studies that will be performed for CD-2. It was also determined that David will produce a list of "must-haves" in regard to software by the time of the workshop. The list will contain names of those who will be completing each task and will be circulated ASAP so everyone knows what is being expected of them. Some names were identified for individual tasks. Some names were suggested of collaborators who were not at the meeting so they will need to be contacted individually. David will to do this.
