Peak fields as much as 1.5 times these have frequently been encountered in some earlier solutions and may be required on the machine. Diagnostic/correction systems are not yet fully specified. Meanwhile, the following applies: All dipoles should be independently adjustable over a range on the order of perhaps plus/minus a couple of percent. This provides horizontal correction in the arcs proper and down the linacs (through use of the chicane dipoles) The correctors may need to produce ~2000 g-cm ? (scaling from beam bending experiment, but this is VERY preliminary). Net corrector budget: Knobs on all dipoles at few percent level + 10 horizontal correctors 18 vertical correctors Watch out for apertures! Correctors on the return arc must have large bore, and it would be worthwhile to make "in" arc correctors similarly in case we decide to move the wiggler downstream of the cryomodule. Diagnostics are quite murky at present, but the following guidance may apply The cw capabable BPMs are for energy/orbit feedback during operations Other "M" monitors could be beam viewers of some type, synchrotron radiation monitors, or electromagnetic devices We will need something on the order of 10 beam profile monitors (OTRs could work and double as beam viewers) to serve as diagnostics for betatron matching and momentum spread during setup Watch out for apertures! Diagnostics on the return arc must have large bore, and it would be worthwhile to make "in" arc diagnostics similarly in case we decide to move the wiggler downstream of the cryomodule. Field quality is still undetermined - probably the 10^-3 flatness/linearity spec from the CEBAF nuclear physics machine will convey - specifically, the field should be flat or linear over the full beam size +/- 1 cm. Note this implies a much larger good field region in this machine than in the CEBAF linac, by virtue of the vastly larger beam size... Note, at present, none of the qb's (here designated as QT11,12,21, and 22) are excited nor is the path length adjusted (done by moving the return arc bb).
