Minutes of the E00-102 Planning Meeting Wednesday 010705 KF Present: MA Mattias Andersson KF Kevin Fissum SG Shalev Gilad DH Doug Higinbotham WH Wendy Hinton DM Dave Meekins BR Bodo Reitz AS Arun Saha LW Larry Weinstein o BR has set up the mailing lists. To check who is on the subscription list, send "who e00102". o AS mentioned that JL is working out the anticipated Emiss resolution for us. For now, our anticipated resolution is 2 MeV, which AS quoted from his experience with e89044. o KF agreed to flesh out the experiment webpage before we make the general announcement to the collaboration. Anyone who has something they would like posted, please forward it. The webpage is located at http://www.jlab.org/~fissum/e00102/e00102.html o AS announced the new run period schedule: 18 Oct - 21 Nov: run We note that we have lost all the previously assigned "bonus days" as well as the commissioning days we had anticipated using to calibrate and commission the waterfall target, as well as shake down the spectrometers. AS will investigate. AS also pointed out that if the septum magnets really slip badly in terms of being completed, then we will probably run Feb 2002 through mid-March. DH said he thought the decision would be made in mid-August. At this point, we are not really sure how the number of days awarded to us was obtained, given the 20% hit in count-rate we have absorbed by moving to the new kinematics. KF notes now while he is writing up the minutes that if we do in fact run next year, we most likely would want our original beam energy and to return to our original measurement. o various aspects of the waterfall target were discussed in some detail, including how to measure the thickness of the foils, how much we actually can vary the thickness with the pump speed, and how we will know the position of the aparatus when it is installed. The question of moving the target ladder or just leaving the waterfalls in place throughout the entire experiment was also discussed. Several interesting suggestions were made, but we decided to postpone this discussion any further until we have Dahlberg and Curtis in the room (next meeting). o KF explained in some detail how he had gone through the simulations to create a lattice of phase space matched count rates as a function of \theta_pq. This lattice is good enough to set up the first-pass runplan, but not good enough to optimize the real thing, so he agreed to go through the simulations one more time to really optimize things. LW suggested and all agreed that we fix the HRSr central momentum at P0 = 1.066 GeV/c for the entire experiment. o AS put the run scheme on the white board and we all made suggestions until we had a rough plan in place. Here is a summary of what we ended up with: The kinematics we wish to investigate: label \theta_pq pmiss hours 1p12 (k) +/- A +/- 3.75 +/- 70 2 / 2 150 / 122 +/- B +/- 5.60 +/- 105 2 / 2 120 / 81 +/- C +/- 7.50 +/- 140 2 / 2 85 / 59 +/- D +/- 9.40 +/- 175 2 / 2 28 / 17 +/- E +/- 11.20 +/- 209 3 / 3 29 / 15 +/- F +/- 14.90 +/- 278 20 / 20 14 / 5 +/- G +/- 18.60 +/- 346 40 / 40 9 / 3 +/- H +/- 23.27 +/- 431 60 / 60 2 / 0.5 +/- I +/- 27.95 +/- 515 80 / 80 1 / 0.3 (continue to measure the cross section at very high pmiss if time permits) Note that the hours assigned are very crude. For now we are just saying that we will spend an equal amount of time on either side of qvec. However, we need to spend longer on the -ve pmiss side at each point to get the same statistics as the +ve pmiss side. We also have poorer signal-to-noise on the -ve pmiss side. The estimated number of counts in the 1p12 peak is probably a little pessimistic, particularly at low pmiss. Optimization of the counting times on either side of qvec will have to wait for KF and the simulations. Our first-pass runplan: Day Task 00 survey spectrometers and / or waterfall target 01 calibrations and commissioning* 02 calibrations and commissioning*, qvec *see WH's detailed runplan. Some modifications and suggestions were made to reorder things, as well as to add certain measurements. DM suggested "discrete" white spectra data be taken in addition to the standard QE data. WH will prepare up a new version of her runplan for the next meeting. *DM suggested we start with a "relaxing" kinematics after the intense startup period. This will allow us to catch our breath, and double-check things to make sure the system is functioning as we think it should be before we get too deep into our experiment. 03 +G / +F / +E / +D / +C / +B / +A 06 qvec, then -A / -B / -C / -D / -E / -F / -G 09 -H for 24 hours (to look for the unexpected) 10 -I for 24 hours (to look for the unexpected) 11 qvec, then +I for 80 hours 14 +H for 60 hours 17 qvec, then -H for 36 hours 19 -I for 56 hours 20 survey spectrometers and / or waterfall target o Monday, July 9th, 14.00 is the next large meeting date. Room L207 has been booked as it is the only one available. Dahlberg and Curtis from the survey group will join us.
