Minutes of the E00102 meeting Thursday, October 4, 2001 BR present: MA Mattias Andersson FG Franco Garibaldi DH Douglas Higinbotham WH Wendy Hinton BM Bob Michaels BR Bodo Reitz AS Arun Saha LW Larry Weinstein 1.) BR reports, that there are still many empty slots in the shift schedule, especially for the owl shifts. DH said, that many people did not receive the shift requests send to the halla email lists by AS. DH will prepare another shift request email and send it around 2.) We will try to be ready to start October 15. FG reported, that for RICH commissioning four shifts are needed - one for the polarity change, three four data taking. So we expect - assuming data taking is running smoothly - to give over to the RICH in the owl shift, Nov 20. 3.) LW reported about Count-Rate estimates - Taking into account data from Hall B, he concluded that our count rate (singles) will be smaller compared to KFs estimates, which should improve the signal to background ratio by up to a factor 5 at the high missing momenta - Using the known segmentation (3 foils) of the target to apply further cuts, should also improve the signal to background ratio. 4.) AS asked about deadtime measurements, BR reported: a.) computer deadtime will be measured with scalers, like in all experiments before. BM and BR are working on problems with doublepulsing. Part of this problem is due to noise from the Scintillators itself, which is unavoidable without increasing thresholds and therefore reducing the efficiency. They are preparing a setup to measure this effect. b.) independendly, the EDTM system is running: it was invented to get the electronics deadtime, but it can also be used to measure the total deadtime. it will be running at roughly 1 Hz and simulate coincident events in both arms. It is also able to measure the dead time as function of scintillator number 5.) FG reported about the situation at the waterfall target: positioning and calibrations are tested at the moment. Next step is to test the system with water. Hopes, that everything is finished by tomorrow. FG asked about some kind of transfering the responsibility for the target to one of the shift workers during the experiment. LW pointed out, that we need to add waterfall related items to various checklists, we need a manual for the shift workers. There will be somebody on-call for the waterfall target. FG will arrange some kind of training for shiftworkers for everybody who is arround next week. 6.) LW asked for an alarm handler, which checks ratio of trigger rates to the beam charges. BM reported, that one could add something like this to the alarm handler. 7.) BM reported, that some work on EPICS and Scaler, Start and End-of-Run script needs to be done. MA will work on this together with BM. 8.) LW reported, that there is some convergence in how to check the allignment of the target with beam. 9.) BM mentionned, that he could synchronize the Scaler and Event readout, if wanted. We agreed, that this is usefull. 10.) The DAQ for the experiment will run on adaql2, online analysis mostly on adaql3, adaql1 is also available. There is a request from RCS to use adaqs2 in this time. BR will contact Ole Hansen, because RICH will also use adaqs2. 11.) DH asked, whether there will be a dedicated PC for the offline analysis available for this experiment. MA said, that he will be here at Jlab until next August, to analyse most of the data at the Lab. LW said, that there is Computing Power and Diskspace also available at ODU. 12.) There are further requests for doing some test runs for other experiments: - RCS wants to take some optics data at high momenta: but they want to have a extended optics target -> this is not installed yet, and it is too late to add it -> if they can live with a single foil or the waterfall we have no objections - BM wants to do some tests for future parity experiments these test are not effecting us at all. - RICH wants to run parasitically, most of the time without effect, for some runs, it might increase the deadtime - Jiang Xiaodong suggested to take some carbon data at low missing momenta. This would cost some time. Because this might result in physics data, it might be necessary to get approval from Kees and/or Jlab. We need to get more information, how much time he needs to get which kind of information. 13.) BR wants to give Ed Folts an update about the runplan, and the needed surveys, angle changes, polarity changes, momenta, ... Surveys are wanted before and after the experiment. We will schedule another survey at Nov. 13. If this is not doable, we will request one for Nov. 6. 14.) WH is working on espace and the needed kumacs. BR promised, that next week they could be tested with the HRSs and cosmic data. 15.) WH and MA should get pagers. DH will take care of that topic.
