Minutes of the E00-102 Meeting Monday, April 3 2006 Fissum KF/KF/SG/JL/JL/AS/JU/LW o LW introduced KF (Kurniawan Foe) to the working group. We now have two KFs, so I'll start writing Fissum and Foe to distinguish them. Foe will present his proposed thesis work to ODU council tomorrow. He will then be working fulltime on the E00-102 data analysis. Welcome! o JU introduced JL (Joaquin Lopez) to the working group. We now have two JLs as well, so I'll start writing Lachniet and Lopez to distinguish them. Lopez will be working on 16O simulations as part of his thesis project, with an eye on extracting 16O results *before* E06-007 (Pb) runs. Welcome! o LW will ping the Tel Aviv group regarding a potential PhD student to join the data-analysis effort. SG pointed out that this is unlikely, but we should tie this down before proceeding. o AS asked for an analysis status report. LW and KF presented the highlights. See http://www.jlab.org/~fissum/e00102/minutes/minutes.051108.txt for these highlights. Basically, we have calibrated spectrometer databases and the mispointing is understood. We intend to repeat all subsequent analysis using the ROOT analyzer. Lachniet went through the details of some of his analyis. He has been comparing the ESPACE and the ROOT analyzers on an event by event basis, and finding strange behaviour that he attributes to ESPACE. He sees systematic shifts in focal-plane coordinates even though both analyzers think that the wire chambers are at the same location. Tracing back through the spectrometer to the target magnifies these shifts and also introduces a spread. We decided that there is no point in trying to understand this -- better to just switch to the ROOT analyzer. Also discussions of electronic and computer deadtime ensued. Lachniet agreed to go through his analysis binder and write some logbook entries (see below) and/or short reports to summarize his progress thus far so that we all can get back up to speed. o Fissum reported that the E00-102 website (see http://www.jlab.org/~fissum/e00102/e00102.html) is 100% up to date. From the website, copies of Mattias Andersson's thesis and MySQL database may be downloaded. It was agreed that Lachniet will now maintain the database, and periodically send copies to Fissum to be posted at the official website. Fissum will continue to look after the website. o LW reported that the online logbook is up and running (see http://clasweb.jlab.org/cgi-bin/ENOTE/enote.pl?nb=e00102&action=view&page=last). The username is 'clas' and the password is 'e1tocome'. We agreed that the logbook will not be 'correctable' and that we would all make every effort to use it. Fissum suggested labeling all analysis entries with the keyword 'analysis' and all simulation entries with the keyword 'simulation' to make sorting the information easier. o recall the plan of attack is to divide the analysis between Europe and the US such that simulation work is performed in Europe and the data analysis will be peformed in the US. We will use the online logbook, telephone conferences, and occasional face to face meetings to coordinate. o Fissum/JU/Lopez discussed Lopez's upcoming trip to Lund. Lopez will be in Lund for roughly 2 months beginning the 2nd week in June. Fissum and Lopez will be working on setting up the experiment in MCEEP. JU may also travel to Lund for a few days during Lopez's stay. JU and Lopez anticipate the Lund trip will be followed by a trip to California for discussions with Aniol as to his GEANT work for the Pb experiment, and how to port that work to 16O. o LW, Lachniet, and Foe will start an attack on the data in earnest later this week. Analysis meetings will be held weekly at ODU at 10.30 am on Mondays. All welcome. Suggestion from Fissum -- perhaps a short description of what transpires during these analysis meetings could be entered into the online logbook, or at least sent to the mailing list e00102_analysis@jlab.org? o We agreed to a conference call to discuss progress sometime during the week of 17 July 2006. We also made tentative plans for an analysis meeting at JLab for sometime around the week of 18 September 2006 (to coincide with ChPT).
