Dear Colleague, Update for 970814: 08.00 - 21.00: Accelerator tuning 21.00 - 24.00: FPP production -85 MeV/c The accelerator came up in fits and starts, including a lot of hardware problems. By 21.00, 70 uA was available. A series of FPP trips resulted in the current being reduced to 50 uA for steady-state operation. About three hours of production running occurred by midnight. This took their total statistics to 10M I am told. At 11.20, the H2O-fall target failed - exit window shredded, and all the water collected in the chamber. Scot, Mark and Ed scrambled to bring us back up to speed by 23.00. At 24.00 all systems were go save the DAQ. Kevin ######################################################### # K.G. This took their statistics to roughly 13.5 M. At 18.00, we began to change the spectrometer configuration in preparation for E89-003B. At midnight we were still fighting with HRSe. Many, many things conspired against us. Thanks to James and Scot (yet) again. Tuning to 0.845 GeV proved troublesome, and we didn't get going again until 09.30. After four hours of q-vector determination, we surveyed. Thanks to Dan Varnell of the survey for donating his Sunday afternoon to us. The q-vector determination continued through midnight. Time was spent addressing concerns over abnormally high levels of radiation in the Hall both during the morning and the evening. The ep group attempted some detector tests. After this, we obtained about 16 hours of smooth production running at theta_pq = +16deg, effectively doubling our statistics at this point. So conclude the first two EXPINT experiments. Thanx to everyone who participated, especially to those who dropped everything and pitched in at such short notice for E89003B.
