FPP Rear Chamber Status 6/96 for Mark Jones CEBAF Presentation
Rutgers University Experimental Nuclear Physics
Intermediate Energy Focal Plane Polarimeter
Present Status and Future Plans for Rear FPP Chambers
1. Status
- (a) Chamber 3
- i. Tested with pulser system.
- ii. Held 2200 V in air; UV straws trained to sub microamp leakage
currents up to 1930 V in 80/20 Ar/CO2.
- iii. Several small details to finish before ready to ship.
- (b) Chamber 4
- i. All straws strung and grounded.
- ii. U straws gas capped and pressure tested.
- iii. V straws being gas capped and pressure tested.
Typically couple percent failure rate on first pass.
2. Future Plans
- (a) Chamber 3
- i. Ship to CEBAF 2nd week of July, with level shifter electronics.
- ii. Repulser test wires, to check for problems (est: 1 week).
- iii. Mount in hadron space frame, hook up gas, signal, HV, and
start cosmic testing...
- (b) Chamber 4
- i. Expect V straws gas tested by July 4.
- ii. Expect full gas system flow tests done by mid July.
- iii. Start electronics hookup. All stacks and mounting fixtures prebuilt.
Should finish early August.
- iv. Expect HV, pulser tests and training in August; ship early September.
