MED Contributed Session: March 16-17, 2006

Baltimore Convention Center

The Medical Physics Section (MED) of the National Society of Black Physicists is announcing a Medical Physics Focus Session to be held during the 2006 American Physical Society annual March Meeting. This year APS's meeting will be located in the Baltimore Convention Center in Maryland on March 13-17, 2006. The session will explore opportunities and vistas in medical physics research and practice, teaching medical physics to undergraduates, medical physics curriculum as a recruiting tool for physics departments, and the prospect of establishing a Division of Medical Physics within the American Physical Society.

Session speakers will include:
Dr. Roderic Pettigrew, Director, NIH/National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering
Dr. Andrew von Eschenbach, Director, NIH/National Cancer Institute
Dr. John Ruffin, Director, NIH/National Center on Minority Health and Health Disparities
Dr. Howard Amols, President, American Association of Physicists in Medicine
Dr. Prabhakar Tripuraneni, President, American Society of Therapeutic, Radiology and Oncology

Important information

  • As part of the medical physics community we are asking everyone to submit an abstract using sorting code 10.11 Physics of Physiological Systems no later than November 30, 2005. This is crucial to having a possible Medical Physics Division at APS, since at least 300 abstracts must be received from our community to initiate the process towards this goal.
  • We also encourage everyone to submit their abstract to the annual MED'06 section to be held in San Jose (CA). Information for this meeting can be found at the MED06 website. .

We are looking forward to seeing you at the APS and NSBP 2006 meetings
