INITIAL RTPC TURN-ON PLAN is posted HERE.
When to ask for help from a RTPC expert!
When you are unsure or cannot find what you need to know on this page or the links from it.
RTPC High Voltage System (HVPS)
How to read the high voltage power supply setpoints and readbacks of voltages and currents, both using the control software and using the front panel of the HVPS.
How to set HVPS voltages, ramp rates, and trip currents.
What are the nominal RTPC high voltage settings for the present run conditions.
Whether or not the observed currents and voltages are within tolerance.
How to determine what the normal currents are at any set voltage combination.
How to start up the monitor / control / logging software for the RTPC high voltage.
RTPC Gas System
What the normal RTPC gas flow rates and pressures are
How to read the current conditions.
How to adjust RTPC gas flows and pressures.
How to start up the monitor and control software for the RTPC gas system.
How to reboot the gas system PC.
How to monitor the bottle contents of the helium and DME.
Detector and Target Temperature
How to start up the detector head temperature monitor software.
How to monitor the detector head temperatures, what the limits are, and how to shut off the power if a limit is exceeded.
How to monitor and operate the target gas system
Read target pressure
Know what gas is in the target
When and how to add gas to the target
How to monitor the target gas supply bottle pressure
How to start up the monitor/control software for the target gas system
DAQ
How to run / restart / monitor the BoNuS DAQ
How to tell if the BoNuS detector is operating normally
How to generate and examine BoNuS Pulser Triggers
BEAM
How to tell if the beam conditions are correct
Current
Position
Focus
Halo
What a BoNuS Shift-Taker Should DO on Shift
Continuously watch the relevant conditions, take necessary action if a parameter is out of tolerance, and regularly record them in the detector log:
Detector HV and currents
Detector gas composition, flow, pressure
Detector head temperatures
Target gas composition, pressure
Observe RTPC displays and estimate the occupancy (number of min-I and heavy-I tracks per event)
Check for new hot or dead channels in the RTPC. Take action if there are significant changes.
Beam current, position, halo
Verify that BoNuS DAQ is running normally
Satisfy yourself that the operation of CLAS is under control
