Speaker: Thomas Blum (Connecticut U. & RIKEN BNL) Title: Progress towards the lattice calculation of the hadronic light-by-light contribution to the muon anomalous magnet moment. Abstract: After a brief introduction to the muon "g-2", I will describe our method and efforts to calculate the hadronic contributions to this important quantity from first principles using lattice gauge theory. An investigation of lattice methods in pure QED for the calculation of the lowest order contribution, called the Schwinger term, will be described. Particular attention will be paid to finite volume effects which are significant since the photons are not confined. I will then turn to the status of a similar calculation of the light-by-light amplitude. Finally, I will conclude with prospects for the hadronic contribution.
