10/28/2001 Gen01 FARADAY CUP BCM CALIBRATION PROCEDURE ------------------------------------------- time estimate: 1 hour 1. Turn Hall A and Hall B lasers off. 2. Check machine aperatures with 30 Hz system. Record the voltages in the elog. Back out the 30 Hz system. If the aperatures are too tight (ie, < 3 volts), try to make it better within some reasonable time limit. Otherwise, ABORT. In the following, the Hall C beam current must be stable to better than 5% for minutes at a time. 3. Set up nominal 100 nA beam to Hall C. 4. Steer beam to the injector 5 MeV Faraday cup. Try to center up the beam (ie, maximize the response) to a 1% flat-top. If the beam current isn't stable within 5% over 5 minutes, try to improve things. Otherwise, ABORT. 5. Strip chart the Faraday Cup and the Hall C BCM1 and BCM2. Our purpose is to calibrate BCM1 and BCM2 against the Faraday Cup. 6. Call Hall C and tell them to start a run with most of the data prescaled away. 7. Perform the following operations, using 30 seconds per interval (if there's an RF trip then wait for beam current to stabilize, then continue): Faraday Cup Status Beam Current (nominal) In Out In Out 50 nA 75 nA 100 nA 125 nA 150 nA 8. Important: elog the strip chart of the Faraday cup current. 9. Back out (ie, restore injector steering, lasers, and slits to previous values) Thanks!! Dave Mack
