Fpi-2 Analysis Tasks and Timeline (Updated Mar 4, 2005) Fpi-2 Run: July-Aug/03 REPLAY 0 of data done by shiftworkers with online calibrations. Sept 1/03 - Analysis begins CALIBRATION TASKS WITH REPLAY 0 NTUPLES: a) BCM calibrations. ---> DJM Done Sept/03. Use BCM2. b) Initial run table. ---> GH Done Aug/03. c) Beam Energy calibrations. ---> Mark Jones Completed Aug/03 [ref FpiLog 521] d) Drift chamber time-to-distance map calibrations, tracking efficiencies. Look at residuals. Dave will make a plan for an appropriate script. Ed Brash will write script. ---> EJB & Seonguk Jin Done during experiment. e) TOF offsets, coin timing peak drifts with TDC temperature and will need to be adjusted on a run-by-run basis to within 200 ps, to keep peak within single beam bucket timing window. ---> Tanja Completed Feb/04 [ref FpiLog 423-430] f) Hodoscopes. Look at position dependent inefficiencies. ---> Tanja Tanja writes:" For the case of position dependent hodoscope efficiency I assumed 3/4 SCIN projected to the planes. The 3/4 trigger efficiency was also calculated from the individual plane efficiency (S1X, S1Y ...) and examined as a function of time." g) Gas cerenkov cuts, PID analysis. ---> Seonguk Jin & Dave Mack Dec/03: Time dependence of calibrations still needs to be investigated. HMS Gas Cerenkov efficiencies for runs 47346-47540 by Tanja Jul/04 [ref FpiLog 473] SOS Gas Cerenkov efficiencies for runs 45027-45046 by Tanja Jul/04 [ref FpiLog 472] h) SOS Calorimeter calibrations, efficiency, PID analysis. Calibration has strong rate dependence, so will need different calibrations for different sets of runs. Place cut at Etot>0.7. ---> Seonguk Jin & Dave Mack. Completed by Tanja Nov/04 [ref. FpiLogs 510,512; Oct 5,22,Nov 19 teleconf notes] i) Aerogel cuts, calibration, PID analysis. ---> GH Completed Feb/04. [ref. http://www.jlab.org/~mack/FPI_PHASE2/ANALYSIS/AEROGEL/aerogel.htm] Aerogel efficiencies completed by Tanja Nov/04. [ref. FpiLog 512, Nov 19 teleconf notes] j) Implement VU (Vladis and Henk) new tracking algorithm into software. ---> Mark Jones. Completed March/04. New Tracking Efficiencies vs Rate done by Tanja, Mar/04. [ref FpiLogs 446-449] k) Luminosity scan of target thickness. ---> DJM Partially completed Sept/03. Analysis of high statistics luminosity scan at end of expt, using VU tracking code. Then need to check if the various luminosity scans give consistent results. ---> Completed by Tanja July/04. [ref FpiLogs 469-480] l) Initial ep elastic cross-section checks. ---> Tanja Initial checks completed Dec/03. Singles and Coin ep cross-sections checked after Replay2 by Tanja, Sept-Oct/04. Proton absorption correction determined by looking for missing proton coincidences in elastic singles data. [ref FpiLogs 500, 506; Sept 21, Oct 5 teleconf notes] CONCLUSIONS: 1) SOS singles yields look good. 2) HMS singles yields agree well with MC for 4.2, 5.2 GeV, but are 3% high for 3.8, 4.7 GeV. We expected to be able to get better agreement than this. 3) With the proton absorption correction applied, the Heep Coin Yields are in as good agreement with SIMC as the Singles yields are. m) Initial Heepcheck offset fitting to get corrected E, E', theta'. ---> Chuncheng and Tanja Completed Jan/04. [ref FpiLogs 413-415; http://www.jlab.org/~xu/HEEPCHECK.html] Check that Heepcheck offsets produce consistent p(e,e'pi+)n missing mass. ---> Tanja Completed Dec/04. [ref FpiLog 513] Feb 29/04 - REPLAY 1 of data, with new calibrations. This replay should include all new kinematic offsets, better timing and PID calibrations. If ready, also include adjusted HMS elements, with shifted sieve, and improved SOS delta fit. n) Initial SOS optic matrix element fitting. ---> Chuncheng & Mark Jones MKJ will do SOS delta fitting for improved delta range. CCXu will make corrections to SOS matrix elements for X,X',Y,Y' for 0.9 and 1.74 GeV/c. Completed May/04. [http://www.jlab.org/~xu/OPTCHECK.html] o) Initial look at HMS sieve-slit runs. Fitting of runs with sieve shifted vertically by +/-1/2 row needs to be done, to complete the vertical acceptance calibration of the HMS. ---> Mark Jones and Tanja Optimization of HMS optics began in June/04 [FpiLog 459-467] "xptar" effect discovered and corrected for in Aug/04 [ref FpiLogs 482-486; Sept 7/04 teleconf notes] After more thought, these corrections were found to be inconsistently applied. A better correction is posted in FpiLog 523,524 and Feb/05 teleconf notes. CONCLUSION: HMS matrix elements not yet finalized. Considerable progress has been made in properly accounting for the fact that reconstructed target quantities for z<>0 are shifted for compared to the central target quantities (the xtar effect). Matrix elements are now optimized taking into account that xtar is changing. Still needs more work before result can be finalized. p) HMS Cerenkov trigger blocking study. ---> Tanja & Gaskell Completed Oct/04. [ref FpiLogs 490,506; Oct 5/04 teleconf notes] q) Deadtime corrections. ---> Tanja & Gaskell Inconsistencies have been looked at as of Dec/03. Corrections were finalized as part of the luminosity scan analysis in July/04. [ref FpiLogs 467-480] [Final result posted in FpiLog 522] r) SIMC SOS acceptance checks. Compare data and simulation plots of SOS yfp, ypfp for various ytar, delta bins to identify inconsistencies. Results should be compared to Jochen's thesis, p.80. Likely need to put new SOS quad maps into SIMC to improve agreement. Consider any other necessary changes to simulation, such as mis-aligned Cerenkov mirrors. ---> Seonguk Jin & Dave Mack will begin the process in Jan/04 by producing the requisite hundreds of plots, looking for possible problems. This will require a later extended effort to do any coding changes. ---> This is now being looked at by Mark Dalton, as part of the Spring03 analysis. s) Stability checks. Need some scripts to look at invariant mass vs run number, etc. ---> Tanja Horn. CONCLUSIONS: Stability of pion yields, cointime and missing mass for (e,e'pi+/-) were initially checked by Tanja in May/04 [FpiLog 455-458] and rechecked after REPLAY2 in July/04 [FpiLog 474-476]. Stability checks also done for p(e,e'p)omega by Chuncheng in Sept/04 [http://www.jlab.org/~xu/protonyield2.html and http://www.jlab.org/~xu/omegapeak2.html]. Cross comparison of p(e,e'pi+)n and p(e,e'p)omega yield stabilities by Tanja in FpiLogs514 and 525, Feb/05. Depending on the available manpower, and assuming no lengthy dead ends, all of the above tasks (with exception of r) will take about 8 months of sustained effort. May 1/04 - REPLAY 2 of data, with improved optics and corrections. ---> Replay actually done in June/04. INTERMEDIATE CALIBRATION TASKS WITH REPLAY 2 NTUPLES: a) Final Heepcheck offsets. ---> Done (see m above). b) Final SOS optic matrix element and acceptance determination. ---> In progress (see r above). c) Final HMS optics check. HMS matrix elements from Fpi-1 to be okay for x'<60 mr. Shifted sieve data will lead to changes for x'>60 mr. ---> In progress (see o above). d) Better detector efficiency determination. ---> Done (see g,h,i,j above). e) First check of L/T separation algorithms to debug software. ---> In progress. [ref. FpiLog 512; Nov 19 teleconf notes] [ref. FpiLog 526; Feb 15/05 teleconf notes] Nov 1/04 - REPLAY 3 of data, with final calibrations and offsets. ---> Replay performed in late Feb/05. THIRD LEVEL ANALYSIS TASKS with REPLAY 3 ntuples: a) Final ep elastic cross-section checks. ---> Accounting for horizontal offset of beam position on circular target may resolve final discrepancies. b) Look at data in depth, and resolve outstanding problems. c) First SIMC ntuple generation using new offsets. d) Detailed Data/SIMC comparisons for HMS and SOS focal plane and target reconstructed quantities, as well as W, Q^2, t, phi. ---> Detailed comparisons underway as of Feb/05. Need to pay particular concern to specific areas of disagreement, such as in HSYPTAR at large XP. Single arm elastic data may be useful to distinguish between optics effects and misalignment of the quad clipping some XPTAR but not others for extended targets. e) Preliminary L/T separation results. April 1/05 - REPLAY 4 of data, with outstanding problems resolved. ADVANCED ANALYSIS TASKS with REPLAY 4 ntuples: a) Final SIMC ntuple generation using final parameters. b) Thorough look at L/T/LT/TT separations, consistency checks as necessary. c) Final look at systematic error contributions. August 1/05 - Hopefully not necessary, but if we have to: REPLAY 5 of data. OBTAIN: a) Separated cross-section results. b) pi+/pi- separated ratios. c) Fpi(Q^2) determination begins. Model systematic error tests. Use more than one model, if at all possible. October 1/05 - begin thesis writing, drafts of first papers.
