January 2001 H(e,e'K) Runplan
Preliminaries

Before Starting:       Before beginning check the beam conditions. The OTR should be in (if possible). Fast feedback should also be on, both energy and orbit locks and locked to Hall A. The 15 cm LH2 target should be in, and the MCC should be told to setup for 75 uA (but that we want to start at 25 uA first).

Beam Energy:       5.618  GeV. If different by more than 5 MeV (as measured by the Hall A arc-integral B*dl or the Hall A ep), get an updated table of kinematics from P. Markowitz. If there is any difficulty either with the energy or the locks, contact A. Saha.

Beam position:     Less than 0.100 mm for x and y for 3A and 3B

Raster size:           2.0x2.0mm in SPOT or smaller.

Beam Current:      Start at 25 microA on the 15 cm LH2. Expect singles rates of 40 Khz at 25 microA.

Target:                  15cm LH2
First Setting

Kinematics:          We will start at the Q2=2.35 (GeV/c)2, W=1.80 GeV, high epsilon setting.

Spectrometer settings

Data taking

  •       Set the magnets first. The electron arm (e.g., the right HRS) is CLOSE to the administrative maximum momentum of 3.14 GeV/c. Pay attention as the dipole ramps up. Call John LeRose if there is any difficulty. HALOG the magnet screen.

  •       Change the angles simultaneously. HALOG the angles and the vernier settings.

  •       While the magnets are ramping, perform a harp scan and a beam current calibration. HALOG the results.

  •        The trigger setup needs to be set for a electron in the right arm and a kaon (of momentum PK=1.741) in the left arm. Coincidence gate width should be 50 ns.

  •       The prescales for T1,T2,T3 and T4 should be set to give less than 10 Hz trigger rate for each. T5 should be set to 1. The T8 prescale should be set to maximum. HALOG the prescale values.

  •        Need to check the header file : hdr_kaon1

  •        The data taking time is estimated to be 4.0 hours. Will need to update by doing a simultaneous replay. Also check detector spectra with the detector kumac.

  •        Take a short (15 minute) run at 25 uA then increase current to 75 uA and take the rest of the data.

  •        Take a short (15 minute) run at 25 uA on the 15 cm empty target.

  •        Put in the multifoil target and take a 5 minute mainly singles run. Remember to change the prescales to 1 for T1 and T3. Keep T2 and T4 at less than 50 Hz. Use a beam current of 10 uA.
  • Second setting

    Kinematics:          The second setting is at the Q2=2.35 (GeV/c)2, W=1.85 GeV, high epsilon setting.

    Settings:     Change the electron arm first then take a 5 minute single arm run with the multifoil targets. Then change the hadron arm and take another 5 minute single arm run with the multifoil target.

    Beam and Target:      Double check that fast feedback locks on both energy and orbit are on. Spot should give a raster of 2.0x2.0mm or smaller. Change to the LH2 target. Again start at 25 microA on the 15 cm LH2. Expect singles rates of 40 Khz at 25 microA.

    Spectrometer settings:

  •        Need to modify the header file :: hdr_kaon2

  •        The data taking time is estimated to be 4.0 hours. Will need to update by doing a simultaneous replay.

  • Third setting

    Kinematics:          The third setting is at the Q2=2.35 (GeV/c)2, W=1.98 GeV, high epsilon setting.

    Settings:     Change the electron arm first then take a 5 minute single arm run with the multifoil targets. Then change the hadron arm and take another 5 minute single arm run with the multifoil target.

    Beam and Target:      Double check that fast feedback locks on both energy and orbit are on. Spot should give a raster of 2.0x2.0mm or smaller. Change to the LH2 target. Again start at 25 microA on the 15 cm LH2.

    Kinematics:          The fourth setting is at the Q2=2.35 (GeV/c)2, W=2.08 GeV, high epsilon setting.

    Settings:     Change the electron arm first then take a 5 minute single arm run with the multifoil targets. Then change the hadron arm and take another 5 minute single arm run with the multifoil target.

    Beam and Target:      Double check that fast feedback locks on both energy and orbit are on. Spot should give a raster of 2.0x2.0mm or smaller. Change to the LH2 target. Again start at 25 microA on the 15 cm LH2.

    Beam and Target:      Double check that fast feedback locks on both energy and orbit are on. Spot should give a raster of 2.0x2.0mm or smaller. Change to the LH2 target. Again start at 25 microA on the 15 cm LH2.

  • Sixth through the Ninth settings

    Kinematics:          The sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth settings are the LT-interfence part. Call in the Hall A "tech on call" halfway through the sixth measurement to prepare for the small angle. Here the electron will stay fixed and the hadron momentum will be constant between 6th and 7th settings and the 8th and 9th.

    Settings:     Change the electron arm first then take a 5 minute single arm run with the multifoil targets. Then change the hadron arm and take another 5 minute single arm run with the multifoil target.

    Beam and Target:      Double check that fast feedback locks on both energy and orbit are on. Spot should give a raster of 2.0x2.0mm or smaller. Change to the LH2 target. Again start at 25 microA on the 15 cm LH2.

    Data taking

  •       HALOG the settings (magnets, angles, prescales).

  •       The prescales for T1,T2,T3 and T4 should be set to give less than 10 Hz trigger rate for each. T5 should be set to 1. The T8 prescale should be set to maximum. HALOG the prescale values.

  •        Need to modify the header file : hdr_kaon5, hdr_kaon6, hdr_kaon7 or hdr_kaon8 appropriately.

  •        The data taking time is estimated to be 4.0 hours each for settings 5, 6 7, and 8. Will need to update by doing a simultaneous replay.

  •        Take a short (15 minute) run at 25 uA then increase current to 75 uA and take the rest of the data.

  •        Take a short (15 minute) run at 25 uA on the 15 cm empty target for each setting.

  •        Change to angle 6, take the hydrogen data (again 4 hours) then switch to the multifoil target and take 5 minutes at 10 uA. Repeat for settings 7 and 8.

  • Tenth setting

    Kinematics:          The tenth setting is at the Q2=1.90 (GeV/c)2, W=2.14 GeV, high epsilon setting.

    Settings:     Change the electron arm first then take a 5 minute single arm run with the multifoil targets. Then change the hadron arm and take another 5 minute single arm run with the multifoil target.

    Beam and Target:      Double check that fast feedback locks on both energy and orbit are on. Spot should give a raster of 2.0x2.0mm or smaller. Change to the LH2 target. Again start at 25 microA on the 15 cm LH2.

    Data taking

  • Eleventh setting

    Kinematics:          The eleventh setting is at the Q2=1.90 (GeV/c)2, W=2.00 GeV, high epsilon setting.

    Settings:     Change the electron arm first then take a 5 minute single arm run with the multifoil targets. Then change the hadron arm and take another 5 minute single arm run with the multifoil target.

    Beam and Target:      Double check that fast feedback locks on both energy and orbit are on. Spot should give a raster of 2.0x2.0mm or smaller. Change to the LH2 target. Again start at 25 microA on the 15 cm LH2.

  • Twelfth setting

    Kinematics:          The twelfth setting is at the Q2=1.90 (GeV/c)2, W=1.905 GeV, high epsilon setting. Note we are at the limit of the electron arm dipole here.

    Settings:     Change the electron arm first then take a 5 minute single arm run with the multifoil targets. If there is any trouble with the electron arm dipole phone John LeRose for help. Remember, this is the maximum momentum for the right dipole. Then change the hadron arm and take another 5 minute single arm run with the multifoil target.

    Beam and Target:      Double check that fast feedback locks on both energy and orbit are on. Spot should give a raster of 2.0x2.0mm or smaller. Change to the LH2 target. Again start at 25 microA on the 15 cm LH2.

  • Thirteenth through the Sixteenth settings

    Kinematics:          The 13th, 14th, 15th and 16th settings are again the LT-interfence part. Here the electron will stay fixed and the hadron momentum will be constant between 13th and 14th settings and the 15th and 16th. Call in the Hall A "tech on call" halfway through the thirteenth measurement to prepare for the small angle.

    Settings:     Change the electron arm first then take a 5 minute single arm run with the multifoil targets. Then change the hadron arm and take another 5 minute single arm run with the multifoil target.

    Beam and Target:      Double check that fast feedback locks on both energy and orbit are on. Spot should give a raster of 2.0x2.0mm or smaller. Change to the LH2 target. Again start at 25 microA on the 15 cm LH2.

  •        Need to modify the header file : hdr_kaon5, hdr_kaon6, hdr_kaon7 or hdr_kaon8 appropriately.

  •        The data taking time is estimated to be 4.0 hours each for settings 5, 6 7, and 8. Will need to update by doing a simultaneous replay.

  •        Take a short (15 minute) run at 25 uA then increase current to 75 uA and take the rest of the data.

  •        Take a short (15 minute) run at 25 uA on the 15 cm empty target for each setting.

  •        Change to angle 6, take the hydrogen data (again 4 hours) then switch to the multifoil target and take 5 minutes at 10 uA. Repeat for settings 7 and 8.
