Meeting No.6: Target Cell simulation

This week I was working on the simulation of the gas movement inside the 3He target. At the moment I focused my self on the gas behaviour near the entrance window:

a.) I assumed the the center of the entrance window was heated with the constant flux of heat of 300 W/m^2. The parameters of the gas inside the simulated cell are not exact yet, but are very close to the true He values.

b.) I considered the Navier-Stokes equation of the movement of the viscous fluid and the model for the conduction and convection of the heat - I combined these two models together.

c.) To do this simulation I used the Comsol Multiphysics software package (uses FEM)

FEM mesh that I am using:

0.)

Simulated density:

1.) , 2.) y = 0.01: , 3.) y = 0.015:

Simulated Temperature fied:

4.) , 5.) y = 0.01:

Simulated velocity field:

y = 0.01:

6.) 7.) 8.)
y = 0.005:

9.) 10.)
y = 0.015:

11.) 12.)

Movie:

The following movie shows the time development of the velocity field inside the cell (near the entrance window): velocity1.avi

The correct order of the RTDs:

RTD 2: Most upstream
RTD 1: Middle upstream
RTD 0: Center
RTD 4: Middle downstream
RTD 3: Most downstream
The RTD read-outs are according to Yi in deg C.

Question?

a.) What exactly is CZAR ?
b.) How to access data from CZAR?

To-Do:

a.) Simulation of the gas in the vicinity of the exit window.
b.) Simulation of the gas movement in the pumpig chamber and how this affects the gas inside the cell
c.) Try to do the simulation of the whole cell - It appears to be very difficult.
