~sober/manuals/hv_1458.txt 27 July 1997 Revised 05 December 1997 Running the LeCroy 1458 High Voltage Control Interface on an X-terminal STARTING UP (Standard Procedure - from an NCD X-Terminal) For consistency, the preferred terminal is CLASXT35 (the X-terminal next to CLAS10 in the Counting Room). Try to reserve this terminal for tagger high voltage operations during any shift in which the tagger counter high voltages must be worked on. 1. If the "NCD User Services: Console" bar is not visible, press + to bring it up. 2. Select "Terminals", then "New LAT" 3. Scroll through the hosts, and select LAT4P1 (for the T-counters) or LAT4P2 (for the E-counters). * If the LAT does not appear in the list, select "Console" on the "NCD User Services: Console" bar, and reboot the terminal. If this does not work, call an expert. * The second column of the display should read "LAT(255)". If it reads "LAT(90)", then another terminal is already attached to the LAT, and must be disconnected before you can proceed. 4. With the desired LAT in the "Service" box, enter the LAT Password (currently HALLBC) in the password box, and click on "OK". 5. When you see "Connecting to ... success", press the Return key, and type "1450" in response to the prompt. Note: If you see only a blinking dot, type "q" (lower case) and press Return key, then proceed. If there is no prompt and no blinking dot, the LAT cable is probably disconnected from the mainframe. 6. Type "VT100". STARTING UP (Alternate Procedure - from any terminal window) 1. Start with the Unix prompt. Type "telnet latsrv" 2. Log in with Username: CLON Password: HALLBC (or other current password) 3. At LATSRV> prompt, type "set host/lat lat4p1" for the T-counters, or "... lat4p2" for the E-counters. 4. At Password> prompt, enter current password (hallbc) 5. When you see "Connected ... (^\ to disconnect)", press the Return key, and type "1450" in response to prompt. 6. At 1450> prompt, type "VT100". 7. To quit full-screen mode, type "q" (lower case.) 8. At 1450> prompt, type "quit". 9. When you see "bye bye!>", press Ctrl-\. 10. At LATSRV> prompt, type "log" to return to Unix prompt. RELATING THE COUNTERS TO THE HIGH VOLTAGE CHANNELS Complete tables are found in the files ~sober/manuals/t-hv-chan.txt (T and beam pipe counters, LAT4P1) ~sober/manuals/e-hv-chan.txt (E and downstream counters, LAT4P2) Printouts should be posted on the Counting Room wall, and are also in the Tagger Run Information notebook. CONTROLLING THE HIGH VOLTAGE Use the VT Key Map on the right side of the screen for guidance. Hints (not on Key Map): * The "Select" key (above the arrow keypad) is an alternative to ">" to select a range of lines. * The key () is an alternative to "e" to cancel the selection. Main operations: Moving to Slot N: Type +N (with N = hex integer 0 thru D for slots 0 - 13) Selecting one channel: Step down or up to the channel using arrow keys. Selecting a block of channels: Put cursor on first channel. Press ">" (or the "Select" key above the arrow keypad) Move to last channel using down arrow key. Setting voltage of a selected channel or block of channels: * To set a particular voltage, type the absolute value of the desired voltage and hit the Return key. * To raise the absolute values of the selected voltages by 50 V, type "/50", then Return. * To lower the absolute values of the selected voltages by 50 V, type "/50p", then Return. Enabling (disabling) a selected channel or block of channels: Type "[" ("]"). DISCONNECTING THE TERMINAL FROM THE LAT 1. As indicated on the key map menu, type "q" to quit VT screen mode. 2. At the prompt, type "quit".
