Tagger source calibration
Tagger source calibration (Updated 21 March 2003)
On 20 March 2003, Hall Crannell, Eugene Pasyuk and others carried out a
first feasibility test using the newly constructed source holder (which can be inserted in place of one of the shutter plates) and two 0.1 microcurie 90Sr sources.
The plate can hold 12 sources (currently on order) spaced 1.5 inches apart, to provide a quasi-"line source" of length 18 inches, the length of a shutter plate.
By inserting and removing shutter plates, the entire E-counter plane can be tested, with typically 19 or 20 E-counters covered by each plate position.
The preliminary data were taken using a PC-controlled pulse height analyzer, with the low-pulse-height noise cut out. The initial data are useful to check the relative position of the plate.
Figure 1 (PS file)
shows the count rate for E-counters 4-12 compared with calculated rates along the focal plane for the 2 sources used and the 12 sources in the final configuration.
