Moller Run Plan for G0 Engineering Run D. T. Spayde Stage 1: Initial Turn On and Commissioning of Apparatus -------------------------------------------------------- Purpose: Turn on Moller apparatus, tune it up, and make sure everything works. Take first polarization measurement. Prerequisites: - Combined Optics Tune (see below) - Schedule during Yan Wang's shift in operations (operator swing shift from 11/22-11/26) Time Required: 4 hours if combined optics tune already in place, 8 (?) hours otherwise. Necessary Personnel: Howard Fenker, David Gaskell, Damon Spayde Procedure: See "A Tuning Procedure for Hall C Moller Polarimeter" by Howard Fenker. Stage 2: Study of Sensitivities -------------------------------- Purpose: Study the effect of various beam and source parameters on measured polarization. Prerequisites: - Stage 1 of plan complete and successful - Permission from Hall A to change/turn off their beam for short period of time. - Permission from source/operations to adjust laser phase and attenuation settings. Necessary Personnel: Damon Spayde, David Gaskell or Howard Fenker (?) Procedure: 1) Establish Moller tune and take baseline polarization measurement(s). 2) Vary beam current between 0 and 2 microAmps and take polarization measurements. 3) Vary beam position on Moller target +/- 0.5 mm from central value in X and Y and take polarization measurements. 4) Insert target of different thickness and take polarization measurement. 5) Vary Moller raster size and take polarization measurement. 6) Turn off/vary Hall A beam and take polarization measurement. 7) Sample full profile of electron pulse by adjusting laser phase and slit width. Adjust laser phase away from optimum and increase slit width to compensate. Take polarization measurements at several phase settings. 8) Adjust laser attenuator and slit width to maintain constant beam current. Take polarization measurements at several phase settings. 9) Insert/remove half wave plate and take polarization measurements.
