Personal
I am married to A. Deur. We have two boys:
Louis (pronounced "Louie") and Philippe (pronounced "Philip").
I like writing in Chinese: click here (in Chinese);
When I was a student, I did some drawing.
My favorite gyms are the AFC at UVa,
RWFC
in Newport News, and the YMCA
Indian Boundary. They all have great in-door pools.
I tried the 2005 VB R'n'R
1/2-marathon and the 2007 Great
Dismal Stomp 1/2-marathon. Now I am hoping my son(s) will be old
enough so I can run long distance with them in a stroller.
When I was a postdoc, I became interested in "Going Green". I tried to
use reusable shopping bags, and I even made the statement that people
with Ph.D should all buy hybrid cars and not SUVs. After I got my two
boys, I took one step further: I use G-diapers, natural detergents,
biodegradable everything, and I added recycled denim and sweater
projects to my sewing list. With used sweaters I can make baby mittens
and booties. With used denim I will make at least 11 things: camera
bags, aprons, laptop sleeves, pencil cases, fridge pocket magnets, oven
mittens, hot rice pillows, pot and bottle holders, coasters, wall
organizers, X'mas stockings, and picnic rugs. I just cannot wait for my
next vacation time to start so I can do all these. Oh well, when was my
last vacation, if not including conferences? in 2005?
