Hall B Staff Bios


Bob Miller


Bob Miller is a veteran of the U.S. Coast guard, serving from 1983-1987 as a machinery technician at a small boat station in Jonesport, ME, then on the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Reliance. He then worked as an ASE certified master auto technician until he started college in 1998. He received his B.S. (with honors) in mechanical engineering in 2001 from the University of North Carolina, Charlotte. As an engineer, Bob worked at Newport News Shipbuilding in the nuclear piping division, until joining Jefferson Lab in 2007. Bob was hired at JLab to develop the detectors and equipment for the Hall B 12 GeV upgrade. He focused on the drift chambers, FTOF, CTOF, and LTCC until 2013, when he was assigned as the Lead Detector Engineer and was responsible for the integration and installation of all 12 GeV Hall B detectors. In 2015, Bob was assigned as the Hall B Lead Engineer and focused on installing all detectors for the start of 12 GeV operations in Hall B.

Current Responsibilities in Hall B:

  • Lead the design and engineering effort in Hall B.
  • Integrate experiment-specific equipment and targets into Hall B.
  • Observe and review installation and repair procedures. Design tooling to minimize risks to personnel and equipment.
  • Evaluate future Hall B upgrades for integration with the current Hall B equipment, considering installation and maintenance.
