Minutes of IR FEL Mechanical Systems Meeting, April 4, 1996

NOTE: Meetings are held every THURSDAY, 1:00 PM IN (BLDG. 58), TEST LAB CONFERENCE ROOM, unless otherwise notified.

ATTENDEES: S. Benson, G. Biallas, C. Bohn, K. Jordan, D. Kashy, D. Kehne, C. Murray, G. Neil, J. Preble, M. Wiseman

Decisions/Comments:

The Q0 of 3x109 is OK for the IRFEL cryomodule and is OK from Cryo Perspective.

We will add the trombone feature of +- 5 cm. to the end dipoles by putting bellows in the vacuum pipes.

Action Items:

G. Biallas/J. Parkinson - Do the appropriate calculations and get Sign-off on relaxed vacuum requirements near cryomodule by R. Sundelin & P. Kneisel. We need the hard interlock values for closing valves. No progress.

D. Douglas/C. Bohn - Add the bunch lengths to zones on the layout drawing in the main beam line and the Injector respectively. No progress.

B. Yunn - Refine impedance analyses. Continued progress.

D. Douglas - Continue to refine lattice, declare what elements can be frozen for engineering and start tracking runs on the machine to find the second order effects. Continued progress.

C. Bohn - Establish a clean statement of the energy range of the machine. Status: Need help from Biallas/Harwood to plot cost vs. maximum energy for the magnetic optics. Division Leadership Group wants to see this data. G. Biallas doing coil calculations.

C. Murray - Continue Layout - Start the cross sections. Put cartoon in for transfer lines of 1/4-unit. The U Tube sockets for future cryomodules do not interfere in the latest configuration.

C. Murray/G. Biallas - Get D. Douglas to define the requirements for wider chambers in the recirculation bending dipoles. Started.

New Action Items:

D. Douglas - Check if the existing QJs can be used in the new injection line.

D. Douglas - Define instrumentation for the injection line if there is any.

J. Parkinson - Keep track of and make sure B. Yunn has the latest layout on all the inside configurations of the beam line. C. Murray to put drawing numbers or reference numbers on the master layout.

G. Krafft - Resolve if we can power the return leg quadrupoles in a series string. (Must allow for E measurement)

C. Bohn - Find out if cryomodule can be assembled without valves on the individual cavity pairs by using enhanced clean room techniques.

G. Biallas - Publish with the layout drawing, a summary of the magnetic elements and if and how they are powered in strings.

Completed Action Items:

D. Douglas/L. Harwood/S. Benson - Spec. octupole content of wiggler. Complete.

G. Neil - Get wiggler beamline drawing to B. Yunn. Complete.

C. Murray/J. Parkinson - Get nominal flange drawing to B. Yunn. Changed to more extensive Action Item.

All Cost Account Managers - Identify and get on order the long-lead items. In particular, the vacuum hardware. Vendors are swamped! Transfer action to Tuesday Program Meeting.

C. Murray - Put parts count on system drawing, e.g., #quads, #OTRs, #BPMs, etc. Complete.

G. Biallas/C. Murray/D. Kashy - Calculate required pipe-wall thickness in the vacuum chambers of the 180-degree bending systems. Complete.

J. Preble/D. Kashy - Spec. cavity Q0. Complete. See Decisions.
