Minutes of the IR FEL Beam Transport Meeting, August 15, 1996

Meetings are held in Room 84, Trailer City on Thursday at 1:30 P.M.

ATTENDEES: S. Benson, G. Biallas, C. Bohn, L. Dillon-Townes, K. Jordan, G. Krafft, C. Murray, M. Wiseman

Decisions/Comments:

Action Items:

L. Dillon-Townes/C. Murray/B. Yunn - Maintain latest layout/ schedule the completion of the definition of the vacuum tube at all discontinuities by 8/15/96, refine impedance analyses and write the Tech. Note. Definition of discontinuities is at about 85%.

G. Biallas - Get the BT contracts signed. Contracts needed to be changed to new DIMAD configuration. Contracts due next week.

A. Guerra - Start definition of a girder for the wiggler, diagnostics and quad telescopes that maintains position of the elements within 50 µm (0.002 in.) during change-out of the wiggler. A. Guerra looking at a home made bench. G. Biallas to hunt out CERN adjuster .

G. Biallas/L. Harwood - Provide a good value for field enhancement factor for the style of magnets we are anticipating. Verify the K value of 0.45 that D. Douglas uses in his optics calculations. Core is in and the coils are being air freighted today.

J. Karn - Test a Prototype Sparse Lamination Quad. QB being tested for comparison to the QG.

M. Wiseman - Thermal analysis of the 45 MeV Dump for 50 kW & beam scraper analysis for 45, 79 and 200 MeV. Some progress made.

C. Bohn - Check D. Douglas' numbers on the new DIMAD. Best done by J. Van Ziejts.

C. Bohn - Determine the position of the beam scrapers by September 18. They are about 12 inches long. No progress.

D. Douglas - Create an Alignment Specification for the elements.

G. Biallas/R. Legg - (Reopened) Determine what is the best method of bending pulsed beam into the dump during cryomodule phasing. L. Harwood saw no problem with the two magnet scheme subject to D. Douglas' analysis of the rectangular pole tips in the application.

New Action Items :

Completed Action Items :

G. Biallas - Since the major dipoles will have 2 inch gaps, determine if the a measurement probe will be necessary and if so if we can borrow one from another Lab rather than make a new one at 1.875 Dia. The measurement will be by Hall Probes so the measurement probe will not be used. Gap remains at 2 inches. Complete.

Web Items:

G. Biallas - Examine categories and recommend changes. No Progress.

G. Biallas - Get minutes and schedules to the Web. Waiting for two students.

C. Bohn - Get bunch lengths to the Web.

Reports for August 16, 1996

G. Biallas

Detailed design of the 180° Bend Dipoles by Vinnie at Northrop Grumman has been postponed until he clears up a design of the warm window. He will be able to catch up on the design next week.

The coil set for the Prototype reverse bend was received.
