Minutes of the IR FEL Beam Transport Meeting, December 19, 1996

Next Meeting: Thursday January 2, in Room 84, Trailer City at 1:30 P.M.

ATTENDEES: G. Biallas, C. Bohn, D. Douglas, E. Feldl, A. Guerra, K. Jordan, J. Karn, R. Legg, M. Wiseman

Schedule Comments, Decisions and other Comments:

D. Douglas gave the specification for zeroing field in the dipoles at the switching positions for dump lines as 1 Gauss-magnet length integral BDL.

Action Items:

G. Biallas - Get the BT contracts signed. Contracts needed to be changed to new DIMAD configuration. No progress on contracts, but requirements documents for each project being worked on.

L. Dillon-Townes - Respond to recommendations of the Vacuum review, including differential pumping issue. Review on differential pumping held on Tuesday Dec. 12. Decisions were to install differential pumps with integral valves at the electrostatic precipitator positions. Pre baked pipes are required between pumps at any end of a Cryomodule. Installation of the entire vacuum system will have to be with cleaned components installed under a flow hood.

G. Biallas - Get recirculation dipoles designed by Northrop Grumman's V. Christina per the schedule. Optical Chicane Dipole at the 98 % level. J. Karn & G. Biallas to check width with respect to D. Douglas' requirements.

G. Neil - Have cable tray layout complete by Oct. 21. Cable tray drawing under last review cycle before sign off. Tray due for delivery before Christmas.

G. Biallas - Publish with W. Merz, the projected voltage and current on all magnets and define the hysteresis cycle. Powering conditions for Injection/Extraction/Phasing dipoles defined as 50 A maximum. To get individual magnets to have zero integral field, we will power them with a small negative current from a separate trim channel and monitor the field with a hall probe. To reestablish the magnet back into uniformity with the others in its group, we will run several hysteresis cycles to maximum current with the whole string.

G. Biallas - Hold the Design Review on Monday, Nov. 18. Transverse good field was found to be to specification within a scaled 2.3 cm of the coils for a 2 inch gap at the axial center of the magnets where the distribution of conductors in the coils approximated the actual manufacturing methods. Maintenance of the uniformity of the field at the magnet ends arose as a new issue and solving the magnetic length change with current remains an outstanding issue.

L. Dillon-Townes - Order the entire stock of required vacuum hardware (including bolts and gaskets) In process.

M. Wiseman - Design X Chamber that is straightforward to build by last week in November. Most drawings signed off, Cookie cutter needs some additional work.

Group - Obtain 4 inch dia. quads for Recirculation Dump. G. Biallas to find if D. Walz has any extra Wrap-Around-Quads at SLAC. S. Benson will talk to D. Nguyen at Los Alamos

G. Biallas - Respond to the Cavity Production Group not providing cleaning resources. J. Parkinson and E. Feldl will submit their needs.

L. Dillon-Townes & J. Parkinson - Get HEPA hoods lined up for vacuum installation

K Jordan/J. Karn - Run the cable from ITS to the Magnet Test Stand and test magnets using the epics control to provide true simulation of running conditions In process.

Completed Action Items :

G. Biallas - Reestablish the basis for gaps on all dipoles. Caution, spread sheet has magnetic gap on injection dipoles (includes added dimension of Purcell gaps). Complete.

M. Wiseman - Order the right quantity of adjustment cartridges now that the stands are defined. In process. Complete.

C. Murray - Finalize injection line and final lattice on machine drawing. Signed off.

M. Wiseman - Start design and order the Back Leg stands and girders in order to have material to install in March. Complete.

G. Biallas - Check with RACON regarding brass activation Complete - Just as bad as stainless steel.

D. Douglas - Recalculate new DIMAD with 2 inch gaps on the Optical Chicane Dipoles. Complete.

G. Biallas - Notify Alignment Group to formalize the highest point on the FEL Enclosure Floor as the basis of the 27 inch beam height. Complete
