FEL Meeting Minutes

8/6/96

Subject: Discussion of Simultaneous Longitudinal/Transverse Emittance Measurements on FEL Photocathode

Attendees: Legg, Sinclair, Engwall, Cardman, Bohn, Neil, Kehne, Biallas, Krafft

The discussion revolved around whether there were technical show stoppers to doing the two measurements on back to back shifts.

  1. C.K. Sinclair said that the idea of limiting the test to meet an artificial "Move" schedule in June was foolish, but that if things went well, the installation schedule for the ceramics in November wasn't impossible.

  2. L. Cardman wanted to clarify that Dave E. would get complete data at 250 keV before the new ceramics were installed and some data afterward. He wanted to be sure that Dave would get his data. C.K. Sinclair also suggested that we run the gun up to 350 keV just before installing the ceramics.

  3. C.K. Sinclair said we have no idea at this time what cathode life will be on the gun, so estimates aren't very trustworthy.

  4. L. Cardman summed things up this way:

    1. get the data at 250 keV
    2. do calculations to predict what the effect on the beam will be to install the chopper cavity
    3. after installing the chopper cavity, run at 250 keV and verify the beam interaction calculation
    4. continue design calculations to verify optics/ doability of the experiment

ACTION ITEMS:

  1. Legg to communicate with B. Yunn on impedance calculations to predict cavity effect on beam. 8/20/96
  2. Kehne to finish design calculations of mech. layout. 8/26/96 (Krafft to supply preliminary sketches to Butch)
  3. Bohn and Sinclair to meet off-line to discuss injector issues
