Struck FASTBUS Interface SFI (STR340)
Short description
The SFI is a 2-3 FB slot wide FASTBUS master with embedded VMEBus (1 or 2 slots). A VME master plugging into this VMEBus can execute FB cycles via a FB sequencer.
The variety of VME masters on the market is opening the FASTBUS world to all popular busses and networks.
A PCI to VME interface coming from DEC is interfacing FB to PC and PCI-Workstation
platforms, single board VME UNIX workstations allow to built a single crate stand alone Readout system, to give two examples only.
Design
The block diagram illustrates the basic components of the SFI.
Features
- Powerfull FB readout controller and interface module
- Utilizes physically embedded 6U VME processor module(s) of your choice
- Accepts one or two VME plug-in modules (more on request) to open FASTBUS directly to VICbus, fibre channel, PCI, SCI, ATM
- Sophisticated FASTBUS interface
- theoretical up to 80MByte/s blocktransfer peak rate (DK(t) to DS(t) = 35 ns), measured 40 MByte/s with LeCroy ADCs/TDCs (1881M/1877)
- Hardware FASTBUS list sequencer
- Utilizes VME programming environments like LynxOS, VxWorks, OS-9
- NIM/ECL pulse and level inputs/outputs for data acquisition/trigger control
- TTL outputs
- User controllable LEDs
- DMA capabilities:
- VME mode
- Direct output mode (LeCroy ECLine compatible)
- Spy mode
Applications
- Fast and cost efficient read out controller for FB TDCs, ADCs and other front-end electronic
- Easy hardware and software integration of FB equipment into VME and/or workstation environments
- Easy integration of FB event data stream into packet switching networks like ATM, fibre channel etc. for event building
